2019–20 DePaul Blue Demons Men's Basketball Team
The 2019–20 DePaul Blue Demons men's basketball team represented DePaul University during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by fifth-year (eighth overall with DePaul) head coach Dave Leitao and played their home games at Wintrust Arena in Chicago as members of the Big East Conference. The Demons finished the season 16–16, 3–15 in Big East play to finish in last place. They defeated Xavier in the first round of the Big East tournament before the remaining tournament was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Previous season The Blue Demons finished the 2018–19 season 19–17, 7–11 in Big East play to finish in a three-way tie for last place. Dave Leitao
David Antonio Leitao Jr. (born May 18, 1960) is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach for City Reapers of Overtime Elite (OTE). He has previously been the head coach of the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League, the University of Virginia, and his alma mater; Northeastern University. He was named the 2006–07 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, but finished at 10th and 11th place in the conference during his final two years with the Virginia Cavaliers. He resigned as the Virginia basketball coach on March 18, 2009. Leitao is Cape Verdean American. He was the first coach of African descent to coach any varsity sport in University of Virginia history. They were led by head coach Griff Aldrich, in his first season, and played their home games at Willett Hall in Farmville, Virginia as members of the Big South Conference. They finished the season 16–18, 5–11 in Big South play to finish in ninth place. They lost in the first round of the Big South tournament to Hampton. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational, their first ever Division I postseason tournament, where they defeated Southern Miss in the first round before losing in the quarterfinals to DePaul. Romeo Jajuan Weems (born June 9, 2001) is an American professional basketball player for the Portland NBA G League team of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the DePaul Blue Demons. Charlie Edward Moore (born February 3, 1998) is an American basketball player for Pistoia Basket 2000 of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), whose college basketball career spanned four major conferences culminating with a year for the Miami Hurricanes of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the 2021–22 ACC basketball season.
