2019 Northern Stars Season
The 2019 Northern Stars season saw the Northern Stars netball team compete in the 2019 ANZ Premiership. With a team coached by Kiri Wills, captained by Leana de Bruin and featuring Temepara Bailey, Storm Purvis and Maia Wilson, Stars finished the regular season in third place behind Central Pulse and Southern Steel. In the elimination final, Stars defeated Steel 53–56. However, in the grand final, they lost 52–48 to Pulse, finishing the season in second place overall. Temepara Bailey
Temepara Anne Bailey (formerly Clark, née George; born 23 October 1975 in Auckland) is a New Zealand international netball player of Samoan and Māori descent. She was a member of the Silver Ferns national squad in 1996, and from 2000–2011. George retired from international duties after the 2011 World Netball Championships in Singapore. She played domestic netball in the ANZ Championship as captain of the Northern Mystics. Since the inaugural season, George has taken part in every quarter for the Mystics. She retired from all netball in 2012. She made a come back as a player for the Northern Stars in the 2019 ANZ Championship. She was previously on the coaching bench for the same team. Ellen Halpenny
Ellen Halpenny (born 25 July 1990) is a former New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand team that were silver medalists at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. During the ANZ Championship era, Halpenny played for Canterbury Tactix and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. She subsequently played for Scottish Sirens during the 2017 Netball Superleague season. During the ANZ Premiership era, she played for Northern Stars and Southern Steel. Early life, family and education Halpenny is the daughter of Kerry and Mike Halpenny. She was born in Napier but moved to the South Island with her parents and brother, Patrick, when she was 10. She attended Villa Maria College, Christchurch. Bailey Mes
Bailey Mes (born 27 May 1989) is an Auckland born New Zealand netball player. She can play at goal shoot, goal attack, and wing attack. She has played for the Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Championships since 2015. In 2012, she was selected into the Silver Ferns The New Zealand national netball team, commonly known as the Silver Ferns, represent New Zealand in international netball. Grace Nweke
Grace Nweke is a New Zealand netball international. She first competed for New Zealand in September 2021, becoming the fourth person of African descent to play for the team, following in the footsteps of Irene Van Dyk, Leana de Bruin and Karin Burger, all born in South Africa. Early life Grace Nweke was born in Auckland on 7 February 2002, to parents who emigrated to New Zealand from Nigeria. She has a twin brother and four other siblings. Her parents initially left Nigeria to go to South Korea, before settling in Auckland in the 1990s. She attended ACG Sunderland from years 9 to 10 then transferred to Avondale College. Kate Beveridge
Kate Beveridge (born 25 July 1985) is a former Australian netball player who played in the ANZ Championship for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2008–2010, Melbourne Vixens in 2011–2012 and West Coast Fever in 2013-2017. Beveridge is known for her long range goal attempts, high arcing shots and very high accuracy rate. She is also known for her unique shooting style, having her arms straight while shooting. She was chosen to play for the Australian Netball Diamonds in 2008-2011. Although Beveridge was not included in the 12-player Diamonds squad in 2010, she captained the Diamonds' FastNet team in 2010 as the only player to have played in the 2009 World Netball Series. Mainland Tactix are a netball in New Zealand, New Zealand netball team based in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, Canterbury. Between 1998 and 2007, as Canterbury Flames, they played in the National Bank Cup, Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Monica Falkner
Monica Falkner (born 1996) is a netball player from New Zealand. As of the end of 2021, she had represented the New Zealand national netball team on three occasions. Early life Monica Falkner was born on 8 April 1996 in Ōpōtiki in the eastern Bay of Plenty in the North Island of New Zealand. Falkner is descended from the Māori people of Tūhoe and Whakatohea. She was brought up by her father on a farm in the Waimana valley of Whakatāne District in the Bay of Plenty region and attended Trident High School in Whakatāne. Abigail Latu-Meafou
Abigail Latu-Meafou (born 5 July 1997) is a New Zealand-born Australian netball player in the ANZ Premiership, playing for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. Latu-Meafou was born in Auckland, New Zealand though grew up playing netball in Ipswich, Australia. She made her debut in the Super Netball league in 2017 for the Queensland Firebirds as an injury-replacement player before being picked up on the starting list by the Adelaide Thunderbirds ahead of the 2018 season. Claudelands Arena
Globox Arena (formerly Claudelands Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor sports and entertainment arena located in Hamilton, New Zealand. Globox Arena is part of Claudelands Events Centre which contains a 6000-capacity arena and four-star conference and exhibition centre. Construction began on Claudelands Events Centre in 2007 and was completed in 2011 at a cost of $68.4 million ($NZD). Globox Arena is a unique C-shaped auditorium, the only one of its kind in New Zealand and Australia, which is fully retractable and capable of holding live music and entertainment, international sporting events, large banquets, conferences and exhibitions. Te Paea Selby-Rickit
Te Paea Selby-Rickit (born 14 January 1992) is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2019 Netball World Cup. She has also represented New Zealand at the 2018 and the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Netball World Cup. Lenize Potgieter (born 2 May 1994) is a South African professional netball player who currently plays for Manchester Thunder and the South Africa national netball team, South African national team. Early life Potgieter was born in Polokwane, Limpopo before moving to Pretoria to pursue her high school career at Hoërskool Menlopark and further her studies and netball career. Waikato Bay Of Plenty Magic
Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are a New Zealand netball team based in Hamilton. Between 1999 and 2007, they played in the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017, Magic have represented Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty in the ANZ Premiership. Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty is the governing body that represents the North Island regions of Waikato and Bay of Plenty. During the National Bank Cup era, Magic were premiers in 2005 and 2006.
