2019 NEAFL Season
The 2019 NEAFL season was the final season of the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL). The season began on 6 April and concluded on 15 September 2019. The Grand Final was won by the Brisbane Lions reserves, who defeated Southport by 76 points. Brisbane Lions
The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. The Lions are one of the most successful AFL club of the 2000s, appearing in four consecutive Grand Finals from 2001 to 2004 and winning three premierships ( 2001, 2002, 2003). Northern Territory Football Club
Northern Territory Football Club, nicknamed NT Thunder, was a Northern Territory-based Australian rules football club that competed in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) between 2011 and 2019. It also competed in the VFL Women's in 2018-19. 2019 AFL Season
The 2019 AFL season was the 123rd season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior men's Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured eighteen clubs, ran from 21 March until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the twelfth time, after it defeated by 89 points in the 2019 AFL Grand Final. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Fankhauser Reserve
Fankhauser Reserve is a multi-sports venue in Southport, a suburb in the Gold Coast, Australia. It has been used by the NEAFL's Southport Australian Football Club team as their home game base. The Gold Coast Suns reserves side also occasionally uses the ground for home matches. The ground also hosted a match for premiership points in the 2020 AFL Women's season. In 1987 the Southport Sharks' board of directors submitted a proposal to the local council to build a professional Australian rules football ground and licensed club on the 31 acres of land located on the corner of Musgrave and Olsen Avenues. The submission was approved and the Sharks were granted a 50-year lease on the site. Construction of the $2.7 million development began in 1988 and was completed in February 1989. The ground was named after then Sharks vice president Wally Fankhauser who donated $2.2 million towards the new headquarters.
