2019 League1 Ontario Season
The 2019 Men's League1 Ontario season was the sixth season of play for League1 Ontario, a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. The league champion earned entry into the 2020 Canadian Championship, the top national tournament for men's soccer teams and the country's only direct path into the CONCACAF Champions League. Changes from 2018 The men's division consisted of 16 teams, a decrease from 17 teams in 2018. Durham United FA returned from hiatus, while Sanjaxx Lions and Toronto FC III no longer participate. For the first time ever, the L1O season did not include a cup competition which had previously been played alongside the regular season. League1 Ontario
League1 Ontario (L1O) is a semi-professional men's soccer league in Ontario, Canada. The league began play in 2014 and is sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association and the Ontario Soccer Association as a pro-am league in the Canadian soccer league system. As of the 2022 season, L1O includes 22 teams. Beginning in 2024, the league will become a three-tier league featuring promotion and relegation. In the Canadian soccer league system, the men's division is behind the Canadian Premier League (CPL). It is part of League1 Canada, the national third tier with regional division, with L1O equaivalent to the Première ligue de soccer du Québec (PLSQ) and League1 British Columbia (L1BC). North Mississauga Soccer Club is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Mississauga, Ontario. The club was founded in 1982 as a youth soccer club and added its men's semi-professional club in League1 Ontario in 2016. The team plays home games at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, formerly known as the Hershey Centre. The club was one of the eight original founding women's teams in the League1 Ontario women's division, which was established in 2015. Evan James (soccer)
Evan James (born 19 June 1990) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for Oakville Blue Devils as a forward. Club career James played 25 games for the Charlotte 49ers in 2011, and was a starter for 23 games. He totaled five goals and seven assists. In 2011, he was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. In 2008, he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. James played club soccer for the Oakville SC and was part of the Oakville Blue Stars for 4 years prior to joining the Charlotte program. He won the U21 Ontario Cup with Oakville. While in college, James appeared for USL PDL club Hamilton FC Rage in 2011, making eight appearances and scoring two goals. Master's Futbol
Master's Futbol Academy, commonly known as Master's FA, is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario. The club was founded in 2009 as a soccer academy and added its team in the semi-professional League1 Ontario, the third tier in the Canadian soccer league system. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "Road (sports), away from home" wins. 2020 Canadian Championship
The 2020 Canadian Championship was the thirteenth edition of Canada's national soccer cup tournament, awarding the Voyageurs Cup. It was held as a final between one representative each from Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, a larger knockout tournament was to be held from June 16 to September 24, 2020, between twelve teams. The twelve teams originally planned to participate were the three MLS clubs, seven Canadian Premier League clubs, and the champions of League1 Ontario and Première ligue de soccer du Québec. The city of Ottawa had looked to be absent for the first time since 2013, with Ottawa Fury FC having suspended operations in late 2019, and Atlético Ottawa having joined the Canadian Premier League after the original draw had been finalized. Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Woodbridge, Ontario. Windsor TFC
Windsor TFC is a Canadian soccer team based in Windsor, Ontario, that was founded in 2004. They have competed in the Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL) and Canadian Soccer League (CSL). Throughout their tenure in the CPSL/CSL, Windsor won two Open Canada Cups, one American Indoor Soccer League (AISL) Championship, and maintained a status of regular playoff contender. Vaughan Azzurri is a Canadian semi-professional soccer team based in Vaughan, Ontario, that currently competes in the League1 Ontario men's and women's divisions. Sigma Sports is a Canadian youth soccer development academy and player management company based in Mississauga, Ontario. They also operate a senior academy soccer team that currently competes in League1 Ontario, as Sigma FC. Over 140 Sigma players have gone on to play NCAA or U Sports soccer on scholarships.
