2019 IBU Open European Championships
The 26th IBU Open European Championships were held in Raubichi, Belarus from 20 to 24 February 2019. It was also a stage of the 2018–19 Biathlon IBU Cup. There were a total of eight competitions held: Single Mixed Relay, Relay Mixed, Sprint Women, Sprint Men, Pursuit Women, Pursuit Men, Individual Women and Individual Men. Biathlon European Championships
The Biathlon European Championships are the top-european competitions in biathlon. The first edition was held in 1994, with sprint, pursuit, individual and relay. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Participation of non-European competitors Even though the event is called European Championships, the event is not restricted to European athletes only. The full name of the competition is Open Biathlon European Championships, meaning that biathletes from non-European countries are eligible to participate and their results being recognised. There are three instances in which non-European competitors have won medals. Lowell Bailey from the United States became the first non-European to win a medal by winning bronze in the Junior Sprint event in 2001, followed by another bronze in the Junior Pursuit. Audrey Vaillancourt of Canada became the first non-European athlete to win gold in the competition, winning the Women's 15 km individual in 2014. Editions Meda ... Ekaterina Yurlova-Percht
Ekaterina Viktorovna Yurlova-Percht (russian: Екатери́на Ви́кторовна Ю́рлова-Перхт, born 23 February 1985) is a Russian biathlete. She debuted at the World Cup in 2008. In 2015, she won World Championships at 15 km individual distance, which was her first victory at the World Cup. On 17 October 2015, Yurlova married Josef Percht, masseur of the Austrian biathlon team. Since then she is known as Yurlova-Percht. On 13 November 2016, she gave birth to Kira. Hanna Sola (born 16 February 1996) is a Belarusian biathlete. She has competed in the Biathlon World Cup. Dzinara Alimbekava
Dinara Talhatauna Alimbekava ( kk, Динара Талғатқызы Әлімбекова, Dinara Talğatkyzy Älimbekova born 5 January 1996) is a Kazakhstan-born Belarusian biathlete. She won a gold medal in the 4×6 km relay at the 2018 Olympics. Alimbekava won her first IBU World Cup competition (a sprint) in Hochfilzen, Austria, in December 2020, and finished as the Under-25 Cup leader for the 2020-21 World Cup season. Alimbekava was born in Kazakhstan to a Kazakh father and a Belarusian mother. When she was three years old, her family moved to Belarus, where her younger brother Zhenya was born. Sebastian Samuelsson (born 28 March 1997) is a Swedish biathlete who competes internationally. He participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics. There he won a silver medal in the 12.5 km pursuit event as well as the gold medal in the relay. He became a World champion at 2023 Oberhof when he won gold medal in 15 km Mass start race. Samuelsson has been outspoken on his views on the presence of doping in the sport, and has especially been critical of Russia and its anti-doping agency RUSADA. Summer biathlon In August 2019, he became Swedish champion at the 10 kilometres sprint distance and the 20 kilometres distance during the Swedish national summer biathlon championships in Sollefteå. Martin Ponsiluoma (born 8 September 1995) is a Swedish biathlete who competes internationally. He participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics. He ended up on a World Cup podium position for first time when he came third during competitions in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic on 20 December 2018. In the 2021 World Championships, he won gold in the sprint, which was also his first world cup win. Personal life Ponsiluoma's father, Jyrki Ponsiluoma, is a Finnish-born Swedish former cross-country skier. He has been in a relationship with fellow biathlete Hanna Öberg since 2021. Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 15 July 1953) is a Haitian former Salesian priest and politician who became Haiti's first democratically elected president. A proponent of liberation theology, Aristide was appointed to a parish in Port-au-Prince in 1982 after completing his studies to become a priest.
