2019 Florida State Seminoles Football Team
The 2019 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University during the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Seminoles played their home games at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, and competed as members of the Atlantic Division in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State was initially led by second-year head coach Willie Taggart. On November 3, 2019, Taggart was fired after losing to Miami (FL) and falling to 4–5 on the season and 9–12 overall. Defensive line coach Odell Haggins was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season, for the second time during his tenure with the program. The Seminoles ultimately finished the season with a 6–7 record, completing consecutive losing seasons for the first time since the 1975 and 1976 seasons. Willie Taggart
Willie Author Taggart (born August 27, 1976) is an American football college coach. He has held the head coach position at five NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision programs: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football, Western Kentucky (2009 to 2012 seasons); South Florida Bulls football, South Florida (2013 to 2016); Oregon Ducks football, Oregon (2017); Florida State Seminoles football, Florida State (2018 and part of the 2019 season); and Florida Atlantic Owls football, Florida Atlantic (2020 to 2022). At all four schools, he was the first African-American to be hired as the head coach. Cam Akers (born June 22, 1999) is an American football running back for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida State, and was drafted by the Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Early years Akers attended Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi, where he played quarterback and running back for the football team. As a senior, he rushed for 2,105 yards and 34 touchdowns, and passed for 3,128 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. For his high school career, he had 13,243 yards and 149 touchdowns. Alex Hornibrook
Alex Hornibrook is a former American football quarterback. The West Chester, Pennsylvania, native attended Malvern Preparatory School and originally committed to the University of Pittsburgh before attending Wisconsin. On March 10, 2019, Hornibrook announced his decision to transfer to Florida State University for his final season of eligibility as an NCAA graduate transfer. After college he played one season for the Jousters of The Spring League. The 2016 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University in the sport of American football during the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Seminoles competed in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference and were led by seventh-year head coach Jimbo Fisher. Deondre Francois (born February 12, 1997) is an American football quarterback for the Orlando Guardians of the XFL. He played college football for Hampton University and Florida State University. Greg Frey
Greg Frey (born January 29, 1968) is a former American football player. He is 1986 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he played quarterback. As a three-year starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he led the team to two notable come-from-behind wins. On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33–20 deficit in the final four minutes to a 36–33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers. On October 28, 1989, the Buckeyes were losing 31–0 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Frey brought the team back for a 41–37 win, throwing a total of 362 yards. Ron Dugans (born April 27, 1977) is an assistant football coach on the Florida State Seminoles and a former wide receiver who played his 4-year National Football League (NFL) career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Playing career Dugans was a standout receiver at Florida State where he won a BCS Championship in 1999 season in his final season. Walter A. Bell IV (born June 7, 1984) is an American football coach and former wide receiver. He is the offensive coordinator of the Indiana Hoosiers football team.
