2019 European Parliament Election In France
The 2019 European Parliament election in France were held on 26 May 2019 (and on 25 May in parts of overseas France and for some nationals abroad), electing members of the 9th French delegation to the European Parliament as part of the elections held across the European Union. The election featured two major changes since the 2014 election: the return to a single national constituency and the increase in the number of French seats from 74 to 79 upon the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Officially, 79 MEPs were considered to have been elected, including five "virtual" MEPs who did not take their seats until the UK formally left the EU. The election featured 34 separate electoral lists, a record number at the national level. It was the first national election in France since the election of Emmanuel Macron as president and therefore his first major electoral test, taking place amid dismal approval ratings. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. The Parliament is composed of 705 members (MEPs). It represents the second-largest democratic electorate in the world (after the Parliament of India), with an electorate of 375 million eligible voters in 2009. Since 1979, the Parliament has been directly elected every five years by the citizens of the European Union through universal suffrage. Voter turnout in parliamentary elections decreased each time after 1979 until 2019, when voter turnout increased by eight percentage points, and rose above 50% for the first time since 1994. He was a deputy mayor of Versailles and is now Member of the European Parliament and Vice President of The Republicans. Early life François-Xavier Bellamy was born on 11 October 1985. Bellamy was educated at the École Sainte-Marie des Bourdonnais, a private school in Versailles. After two-years preparatory classes in the Lycée Henri-IV, he got into the École normale supérieure, from which he graduated in 2005. He earned the agrégation in philosophy in 2008. New Deal (France)
New Deal (french: Nouvelle Donne) is a Keynesian liberal and progressive political party in France. It was founded on 18 November 2013 by Pierre Larrouturou. Its stated aims are to renew how democracy is used, and it has social, ecological and economic goals, which could be defined as left-wing. History In the wake of the 2012 French presidential election, the "Collectif Roosevelt" was launched to promote 15 propositions to all the candidates, which had been signed into a manifesto by over 100,000 people. After François Hollande's victory, Pierre Larrouturou and Stéphane Hessel chose to put these ideas to vote within the Parti Socialiste (PS) at the Toulouse meeting, which was to elect the new leader of the party. Place Publique is a centre-left political party in France, founded in 2018 by Raphaël Glucksmann, Claire Nouvian, Jo Spiegel, and Thomas Porcher. In January 2019, the movement claimed 25,000 members. The Socialist Party (french: Parti socialiste , PS) is a French centre-left and social-democratic political party. It holds pro-European views. The PS was for decades the largest party of the "French Left" and used to be one of the two major political parties in the French Fifth Republic, along with The Republicans. Raphaël Glucksmann (, born 15 October 1979) is a French journalist, film director, and political figure. In May 2019, he was elected a member of the European Parliament, within the S&D alliance. Now the People! European People's Party
The European People's Party (EPP) is a European political party with Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties. A transnational organisation, it is composed of other political parties. Founded by primarily Christian-democratic parties in 1976, it has since broadened its membership to include liberal-conservative parties and parties with other centre-right political perspectives.
