2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament was held from 28 June to 7 July. Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes defeated Alix Klineman and April Ross to win the title, while Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar captured the bronze medal by beating Nina Betschart and Tanja Hüberli. Qualification There were 48 teams qualified for the tournament. Normally, the host country obtained two places in the competition as well as the top 23 teams from FIVB World ranking. But, both of the hosted teams ranked among the 23 teams, so the two next highest ranked team qualified. The next 20 teams belonged to five continental confederation which got four spots each. Ágatha Bednarczuk Rippel (born 22 June 1983), frequently referred to as just ''Ágatha'', is a Brazilian international beach volleyball player, playing as a blocker. She won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships, as well as a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, alongside her teammate Bárbara Seixas. Biography Born in Curitiba, Southern Brazil, to Maria José Vagnoni Moscardi and Alfredo Bednarczuk, a family of Polish and Italian ancestry, Agatha started competing in the city of Paranaguá. Kelly Claes
Kelly Marie Cheng (Claes) (born September 18, 1995) is an American beach volleyball player. She and her partner Sara Hughes won the bronze medal at the 2013 U19 World Championships, the silver medal at the 2014 U21 World Championships, and back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017. Early life Claes was born in Fullerton, California to Paul, a former San Diego State baseball player, and Quincy. She played high school volleyball at El Dorado High School in Placentia, California where she was awarded All-CIF Division 1A and Orange County Register All-Orange County first team honors. Sarah Marie Sponcil (born August 16, 1996, in Phoenix, Arizona) is an American beach volleyball player. Sarah competed for the USA Volleyball Beach National Team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Sarah and partner Kelly Claes tied for 9th in their debut Olympics. At 24 and 25, Sponcil and Claes, respectively, were the youngest beach volleyball team to represent the USA since its inception as an Olympic sport in 1996. Sara Elizabeth Hughes (born February 14, 1995) is an American beach volleyball player. With teammate Kelly Cheng, she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in August 2023. Hughes has won six tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour and seven gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour/Pro Beach Tour.
