2018–19 WNBL Season
The 2018–19 WNBL season is the 39th season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Townsville Fire were the defending champions, however they failed to qualify for the finals. Canberra Capitals won their record eighth championship, defeating Adelaide in the grand final series, 2–1. Chemist Warehouse was announced as the WNBL's naming rights partner for this season, after signing a three-year deal in July 2018. Spalding again provided equipment including the official game ball, alongside iAthletic supplying team apparel for a second year. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Kia Nurse (born February 22, 1996) is a Canadian basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. She is also a basketball analyst featured on TSN. Nurse has played for the Canada Women's National Basketball team. She was selected to play in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Early years Kia Nurse began playing basketball at the age of four, and by the time she was seven years old, she was playing in a competitive league. Rebecca Tobin (born April 21, 1988) is an American professional basketball player. College career Tobin played four seasons of college basketball at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona for the Sun Devils. Leilani Mitchell
Leilani Seamah Mitchell (born June 15, 1985) is an American-Australian professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. Mitchell was drafted 25th overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2008 WNBA draft. A dual citizen of the United States and Australia, she is a member of Australian women's national basketball team (the Opals). Dandenong Rangers
The Dandenong Rangers were an Australian professional women's basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League ( WNBL). The club is based in Dandenong, Melbourne, Victoria. The team was founded as the Dandenong Rangers, however before the 2019–20 WNBL season began the team was rebranded to the Southside Flyers, adopting a new logo, colour scheme and nickname. Rebecca "Bec" Cole (born 19 March 1992) is an Australian professional basketball player. Cole is a starting shooting guard for the Southside Flyers in the WNBL, and has been a member of both the Australian 3x3 national team and the Australian Opals. Brittany Smart (born May 28, 1985) is an American professional basketball player. Early career High school Smart attended 3 different high schools in the Ohio area, ending her high school career at Shawnee High School, Springfield Ohio. Her father, Mike Smart, coached her throughout her high school career. She made the 1st-Team-All-Conference for all four years and led her team to the State Championships. The Melbourne Boomers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria.
