2018–19 Sheffield Shield Season
The 2018–19 Sheffield Shield season was the 117th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. The season started on 16 October 2018. For the first time in six seasons, the competition featured no day/night matches. The first five rounds took place prior to the international Test series against India, and in addition the season breaks for the Big Bash League. Queensland were the defending champions. The final will include the use of the bonus point system that is used during the rest of the competition, in the event that the match ends in a draw. New South Wales faced Victoria in the Sheffield Shield final at Junction Oval in Melbourne. Victoria beat New South Wales by 177 runs to win their 32nd title. Cricket Australia (CA), formerly known as the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia. Daniel Peter Hughes (born 16 February 1989) is an Australian first-class cricketer who plays for New South Wales. Hughes plays for New South Wales and made his Twenty20 debut on 26 December 2012 playing for Sydney Sixers against Hobart Hurricanes. Domestic career Hughes played every match for New South Wales in the 2017–18 JLT One-Day Cup. Lloyd Pope
Lloyd Pope (born 1 December 1999) is an Australian cricketer who currently represents South Australia. In August 2017, he was offered a rookie contract with South Australia. In December 2017, he was named in Australia's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. On 23 January 2018, in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Pope took figures of 8/35 in Australia's quarter-final match against England. These were the best bowling figures in the history of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was the leading wicket-taker for Australia in the tournament, with eleven dismissals. Simon Fry
Simon Douglas Fry (born 29 July 1966) is an Australian cricket umpire. In April 2020, Fry announced his retirement from elite umpiring. Umpiring career Fry served as an international umpire in ODIs for the first time in a match between Australia and England at Adelaide on 26 January 2011. He stood in his first T20I in a match between Australia and England at Adelaide on 12 January 2011. He was selected as one of the twenty umpires to stand in matches during the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where was an on-field umpire in three group stage matches. Shawn Craig
Shawn Craig (born 23 June 1973) is an Australian former first-class cricketer, who is now an umpire. Playing career Craig played first-class cricket for the Victorian Bushrangers, debuting in 1996–97 after graduating from the Australian Cricket Academy. He was used for his part-time legspin and his middle-order batting. His finest knock with the bat was an unbeaten 128 in 1998–99. In his first-class career he averaged 31 with Victoria over the space of 20 matches, and was cut from the state squad after the 2001–02 season. Following this he became a prominent all-rounder in Victorian Premier Cricket, opening the batting for St Kilda Cricket Club. Adelaide Oval
Adelaide Oval is a sports ground in Adelaide, South Australia, located in the parklands between the city centre and North Adelaide. The venue is predominantly used for cricket and Australian rules football, but has also played host to rugby league, rugby union, soccer, tennis among other sports as well as regularly being used to hold concerts. Sean Anthony Abbott (born 29 February 1992) is an Australian professional cricketer originally from Windsor in New South Wales who has represented his country internationally. Chadd Sayers
Chadd James Sayers (born 31 August 1987) is a former Australian cricketer from South Australia. After spending several years in the South Australian Grade Cricket League as one of the best pace bowlers in the state, Sayers began playing first-class cricket for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield in 2011. He played matches for Australia A from 2013, and played his only Test for Australia in the final Test of the 2017–18 tour of South Africa at Johannesburg, after years of near misses. Sayers is a swing bowler who bowls with slower pace than most other bowlers in the modern era. Not Out
In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Peter Nevill
Peter Michael Nevill (born 13 October 1985) is an Australian former cricketer who played 17 Tests and 9 T20 internationals for Australia. He also represented New South Wales and the Melbourne Stars, having previously played for the Melbourne Renegades and the Sydney Sixers. He was Australia's regular Test wicket-keeper from the second test of 2015 Ashes series until being dropped in November 2016.
