2018–19 SDHL Season
The 2018–19 SDHL Season was the 12th season of the Swedish Women's Hockey League. The season began in September 2018 and ended in February 2019. Luleå HF/MSSK were the regular season champions for the fourth season in a row, and defeated Linköping HC 3-2 in the playoff finals to be crowned playoff champions for the third time in the last four years. Göteborg HC and SDE Hockey finished at the bottom of the table, but were able to avoid relegation to Damettan in the playoffs to the SDHL. League business Partnerships Prior to the beginning of the season, German company Axelent announced that they would redirect their sponsorship of HV71 away from the Champions Hockey League and towards HV71's women's side, after the men's side failed to qualify for the CHL. SDHL
The Swedish Women's Hockey League ( sv, Svenska damhockeyligan), abbreviated SDHL, is the elite league for women's ice hockey in Sweden. It was established in 2007 as the by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and was renamed prior to the 2016–17 season. The league has ten teams and employs a system of promotion and relegation with the Damettan. The unexpected withdrawal of Göteborg HC after playing only thirteen games of the 2022–23 season caused the number of teams to decrease to nine for the remainder of that season. Bodychecking was allowed for the 2022–23 season. Format When a game is tied after regulation, a sudden death overtime is played with only four skaters per team for maximum 10 minutes (or 20 minutes in the playoffs). If the game is still tied after overtime, the winner is decided by game winning shots. IF Björklöven (often simply referred to as Björklöven or Löven) is a Sweden, Swedish professional ice hockey Club (organization), club in Umeå, Västerbotten, in northern Sweden. The club is currently playing in the second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan as of the 2014–15 HockeyAllsvenskan season, 2014–15 season, but has played 15 seasons in the top Swedish league Swedish Hockey League, Elitserien (1976–77, 1978–79 to 1988–89, 1993–94, 1998–99 and 2000–01, becoming national champions in 1987). Women's Ice Hockey In Sweden
Ice hockey is one of Sweden's most popular sports and participation in women's ice hockey is increasing; the number of registered women's ice hockey players in Sweden increased from 3,425 in 2011 to 5,973 in 2020. History The first organized women's ice hockey game in Sweden was played in 1969 between Modo AIK and Timrå IK. The Swedish women's national team played its first games in April 1987, during the 1987 Women's World Tournament in Ontario, Canada. The first, unofficial National Championship was played in 1985. Linköping Hockey Club, often known by its initials LHC, or colloquially among its fans as Cluben, is a Swedish ice hockey club from Linköping, founded in 1976. The home arena of the team is Saab Arena (formerly Cloetta Center) which accommodates 8,500 spectators. AIK IF
Allmänna Idrottsklubben Ishockeyförening (abbreviated ''AIK IF'', also known as ''AIK Hockey'', often abbreviated ''AIK'' in hockey subjects), is the ice hockey department of sports club Allmänna Idrottsklubben based in Stockholm, Sweden. Relegation Playoffs
In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. Modo Hockey Dam
MoDo Hockey Dam are an ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL), the top flight of women's hockey in Sweden. They play in Örnsköldsvik, in the historical province of Ångermanland on the east coast of Sweden, at the Hägglunds Arena. The club's junior side, Modo Hockey 2, plays in the North division of the Damettan. History The women's section of Modo Hockey was formed in 1968 under the name of Modo AIK, playing the first ever organised women's hockey match in Sweden against Timrå IK in 1969. As there was no organised league, the match was only a training match. The club finished in third place in the first official Swedish Championship, held in the 1987–88 season, and finished in second place a year later. Leksands IF Dam
Leksands Idrottsförening Dam or Leksands IF Dam are a professional ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). They play in Leksand, a town in the western-central Swedish province of Dalarna, at the Tegera Arena. Until 2021, the organisation ran a second women's side, called Leksands IF Dam 2, which competed in the Damettan Västra. History The women's section of Leksands IF was founded in 1998. The 2008 season saw a leap in success for the club, as it earned promotion to the Riksserien, and saw Cecilia Östberg and Klara Myrén become the first two Leksands players to represent the Swedish national women's team. HV71 Dam
HV71 are a professional ice hockey club in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). They play in Jönköping, in the southern Swedish province of Småland, at the Husqvarna Garden. History The club was originally formed independently in March 2002 as Jönköpings IF Queens, after neither local men's SHL team HV71 nor Hockeyettan club HC Dalen were willing to start women's divisions. The club's logo was designed by 18-year old Swedish-Iranian refugee Behnaz Bahabozorgi, who would serve as the club's chairperson, the club holding practices on an outdoor rink on Saturdays. Djurgårdens Idrottsförening, commonly known simply as Djurgårdens IF, Djurgården (), and (especially locally) Djurgår'n (), Dif or DIF – is a Swedish sports association with several sections, located in Stockholm. Brynäs IF Dam
Brynäs IF Dam are an ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). They play in Gävle, on the eastern-central coast of Sweden, at the Monitor ERP Arena. A constituent part of the Swedish sports club Brynäs IF, they are the sister team of Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
