Discus Throw
The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. Kristel Walther
Kristel Høj Walther (born 11 December 1987) is a Danish Paralympic athlete who competes in discus throw at international level events. She is a European silver medalist at the 2018 World Para Athletics European Championships. In 2008, she had her right leg amputated below the knee after she discovered an aggressive benign tumour in her heel bone. Walther's great grandfather, Aage Walther was a silver medalist in gymnastics at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. Ivanka Koleva ( bg, Иванка Колева) (born 9 December 1968) is a Paralympian track and field athlete from Bulgaria competing mainly in throwing events in the T57 classification. Koleva has represented Bulgaria at four Summer Paralympics from 2000 to 2012, winning gold in the shot put in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney. She was also world champion in the discus in 1994, and competed once as a powerlifter in the 2008 Summer Paralympics at Beijing. Personal history Koleva was born in Chirpan Bulgaria in 1968. Her mother had a kidney problem during pregnancy and was given a medication which had a harmful effect on the foetus. Due to this Koleva was born with impairments to her legs which resulted in them being amputated when she was six years-old. Martina Monika Willing (born 3 October 1959) is a Paralympic athlete from Germany competing in field events. She is both blind and paraplegic. Until 1994 she competed in the F11 classification for vision impaired athletes; following her paralysis, she returned to competition as a seated thrower. T57 (classification)
F57 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position. This class is for people with limb deficiencies not covered by other classes. It includes people who are members of the ISOD A1 and A9 classes. Events open to people in this class include the shot put, discus and javelin. Definition International Paralympic Committee defined this classification on their website in July 2016, " Athletes who meet one or more of the MDC for impaired muscle power, limb deficiency, impaired passive range of movement and leg length difference, who do not fit any of the previously described profiles, fall into this class."
