2018 Women's Tri-Nations Hockey Tournament
The 2018 Women's Tri-Nations Hockey Tournament was an invitational women's field hockey competition, hosted by the New Zealand Hockey Federation. The tournament took place between 19 and 27 May 2018 in Cromwell, New Zealand. A total of three teams competed for the title. Australia won the tournament by defeating New Zealand 4–1 in the final. Japan finished in third place, after being eliminated by New Zealand in the Semi-final. Cromwell, New Zealand
Cromwell (Māori: ''Tīrau'') is a town in Central Otago in the Otago region of New Zealand. Geography Cromwell is between (linking to Wānaka, north, and Queenstown via the Kawarau Gorge, west) and State Highway 8 leading to the Lindis Pass, northeast, and Alexandra, 33 km south. The road to Alexandra winds through the Cromwell Gorge. A point near Cromwell lies 119 kilometres from the sea, the farthest from the sea anywhere in New Zealand. A prominent feature surrounding much of the town is the man-made Lake Dunstan. Nearby settlements are at Bannockburn, Lowburn, Tarras, and Ripponvale. Penalty Shoot-out
The penalty shootout is a method of determining a winner in sports matches that would have otherwise been drawn or tied. The rules for penalty shootouts vary between sports and even different competitions; however, the usual form is similar to penalty shots in that a single player takes one shot on goal from a specified spot, the only defender being the goalkeeper. If the result is still tied, the shootout usually continues on a "goal-for-goal" basis, with the teams taking shots alternately, and the one that scores a goal unmatched by the other team is declared the winner. Stephanie "Steph" Kershaw (born 19 April 1995) is a field hockey player from Australia. Personal life Kershaw was born in Townsville, Queensland. She plays hockey for her home state in the Australian Hockey League, as part of the Queensland Scorchers team. Career Senior national team Kershaw made her senior international debut in a test series against Korea in September 2015. Following her debut in September, Kershaw was part of the Australian team that won the 2015 Oceania Cup in October. In 2018, Kershaw was named in the Hockeyroos team to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The team finished second, winning a silver medal after losing to New Zealand 4–1 in the final. Savannah "Sav" Fitzpatrick (born 4 February 1995) is an Australian field hockey player. Fitzpatrick was born in Cabarita Beach, New South Wales, and made her senior international debut in a test series against China in April 2015. Fitzpatrick was part of the Australian women's junior national team 'The Jillaroos' that won bronze at the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup in Chile. Fitzpatrick qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
