2018 Women's Australian Hockey League
The 2018 Women's Australian Hockey League was the 26th edition of the women's field hockey tournament. The 2018 edition of the tournament was held between 6 – 28 October, and featured a new format from previous editions. The finals phase of the 2018 tournament was held in the Queensland city of the Gold Coast, from the 25 – 28 October. NSW Arrows won the tournament for the tenth time, after defeating the QLD Scorchers 7–6 in the gold medal match. Canberra Strikers won the bronze medal after defeating VIC Vipers 2–0 in a penalty shoot-out following a 4–4 draw. Competition format Unlike previous editions of the Women's Australian Hockey League, the 2018 edition will include a very different format. Women's Australian Hockey League
The Women's Australian Hockey League is highest level field hockey tournament for women in Australia. Until 2016, the annually contested tournament comprised teams from the eight states and territories of Australia. The 2016 edition of the tournament, held in Perth, Western Australia, included two international teams. Teams from Malaysia and New Zealand competed in the 2016 edition. Victorian Vipers
The Victorian Vipers are a field hockey team who participate in Australia's national field hockey league, the AHL. The team is predominantly made up of amateurs who participate in the Victorian Premier League competition. The team's home stadium is the Victorian State Netball and Hockey Centre. Since the women's competition was included into the AHL in 1993, the Victorian Vipers have experienced varying levels of success including winning two national championships. Perth Hockey Stadium
Perth Hockey Stadium is Western Australia's premier hockey facility, with two world-class synthetic turf pitches, a large bar and canteen area and a function centre all available to the public. The venue holds up to 6,000 fans. The Perth Hockey Stadium (PHS) is located at the Curtin University in the south eastern suburb of Bentley, Western Australia. PHS played host to the 1985 Champions Trophy and also the 2002 Women's Hockey World Cup. In recent years PHS hosted several Internationals matches and the very successful International 9's Super Series in 2011 and 2012. The Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, also known as the State Hockey Centre of New South Wales is a multi-use stadium in Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1998 as part of Sydney Olympic Park sporting complex, having held matches for the field hockey events at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Its current capacity is 8,000 people, with seating capacity for 4,000. For the Sydney Olympic Games capacity was boosted to 15,000 through the use of temporary stands. Wrest Point Tassie Van Demons
The Tassie Van Demons were a nationally competing women's hockey team based in Tasmania, Australia. Coached by Ilene Carr, they competed in the Australian Hockey League. Some of the former coaches of the Van Demons include David Guest, Oliver Close, Zain Wright, and Ilene Carr. 2018 Australian Hockey League campaign The Van Demons participated in the final Australian Hockey League (AHL) after it was announced by Hockey Australia that the national competition would be dissolved after the 2018 competition in favour of a "revamped" league in 2019.
