2018 WAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2018 WAC men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Western Athletic Conference for the 2017–18 season. All tournament games will be played at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada, from March 8–10, 2018. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Regular-season champion New Mexico State also won the WAC Tournament championship and received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Seeds All eight teams in the WAC were eligible to compete in the conference tournament. Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. Orleans Arena
Orleans Arena is a 9,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Paradise, Nevada, in the Las Vegas Valley. It is located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino and is operated by Coast Casinos, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. The arena is the home to the Vegas Rollers of World TeamTennis since 2019. It is also an occasional home for the UNLV Rebels basketball team when the Thomas & Mack Center is in use. The arena was the home of the Las Vegas Wranglers ice hockey team from 2003 to 2014, the Las Vegas Gladiators arena football team in 2007, as well as the Las Vegas Sin women's football team. In 2020, the Vegas Golden Knights announced it was purchasing and relocating an American Hockey League (AHL) franchise. The Henderson Silver Knights play at Orleans Arena while the club's new 6,000-seat arena is constructed in Henderson, Nevada. 2017–18 Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team represented the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Vaqueros, led by second-year head coach Lew Hill, played their home games at the UTRGV Fieldhouse as members of the Western Athletic Conference. They finished the season 15–18, 6–8 in WAC play to finish in fifth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament to Seattle. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational where they lost in the first round to New Orleans. Previous season The Vaqueros finished the 2016–17 season 10–22, 2–12 in WAC play to finish in seventh place. Basketball Competitions In The Las Vegas Valley
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three.
