2018 Texas State Senate Election
The 2018 Texas State Senate elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections. Texas voters elected state senators in 15 of the state senate's 31 districts. State senators serve four-year terms in the Texas State Senate. A statewide map of Texas's state Senate districts can be obtained from the Texas Legislative Councihere and individual district maps can be obtained from the U.S. Censu A primary election on March 6, 2018, determined which candidates appeared on the November 6 general election ballot. Primary election results can be obtained from the Texas Secretary of State's website. Following the 2016 state senate elections, Republicans maintained effective control of the Senate with 20 members. However, they gained an extra seat by flipping the 19th District in the August 2018 special election. Texas State Senate
The Texas Senate ( es, Senado de Texas) is the upper house of the Texas State Legislature. There are 31 members of the Senate, representing single-member districts across the U.S. state of Texas, with populations of approximately 806,000 per constituency, based on the 2010 U.S. Census. There are no term limits, and each term is four years long. Elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. In elections in years ending in 2, all seats are up for election. Half of the senators will serve a two-year term, based on a drawing; the other half will fill regular four-year terms. In the case of the latter, they or their successors will be up for two-year terms in the next year that ends in 0. As such, in other elections, about half of the Texas Senate is on the ballot. Beverly Powell (born September 18, 1951), is an American politician from the U.S. state, state of Texas. A Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, she represented District 10 in the Texas Senate from 2019 to 2023. In 2018, Powell defeated incumbent Republican Senator Konni Burton by a margin of 3.4%. During redistricting in 2021, Texas Republicans redrew District 10 to be more white and conservative than its predecessor. The old district had been located entirely in Tarrant County, Texas, Tarrant County, and voted for Joe Biden by eight points. Carlos Uresti
Carlos "Charlie" Uresti (born September 18, 1963) is an American attorney and Democratic politician from San Antonio, Texas. From November 2006 until his resignation in June 2018, he served as a member of the Texas State Senate representing Senate District 19, one of the largest geographical senatorial districts in the Texas Senate, covering a third of the Texas-Mexico border. Prior to his election to the Texas State Senate, he represented the 118th district in the Texas House of Representatives from January 1997 until November 2006. In February 2018, Uresti was found guilty of 11 federal felony charges relating to his alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
