The 2018 Patriot League women's basketball tournament was from held March 3, 5, 8 and 10 at campus sites of the higher seed, except that both semi-final games will be played at the same site of the highest seed. 2017–18 American Eagles Women's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 American Eagles women's basketball team represents American University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Eagles, led by fifth year head coach Megan Gebbia, play their home games at Bender Arena and were members of the Patriot League. They finished the season 26–7, 16–2 in Patriot League play win the Patriot League regular season. 2018 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 2018 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 16, 2018, and concluded with the national championship game on Sunday, April 1. The Final Four was played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. This is the third time that the women's Final Four was played in Ohio after previously being held in Cincinnati in 1997 and Cleveland in 2007 and the first time that the women's Final Four was played in Columbus. For only the fourth time in the tournament’s 37-year history, all four of the number one seeds made it to the Final Four (1989, 2012, 2015). Tennessee continued its record streak of making every NCAA women's basketball tournament at 37 consecutive appearances. The rating percentage index, commonly known as the RPI, is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. It is one of the sports rating systems by which NCAA basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball teams are ranked. This system was in use from 1981 through 2018 to aid in the selecting and seeding of teams appearing in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as well as in the women's tournament from its inception in 1982 through 2020. During the 2018 offseason, the NCAA announced that the RPI would no longer be used in the selection process for the Division I men's basketball tournament.
