The men's 100 metre backstroke competition at the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships took place on August 10 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center. Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center
is a swimming venue in Kōtō, Tokyo, Japan. The swimming centre has hosted several Japanese swimming championships. History The swimming complex was designed by the Environment Design Institute, a Tokyo architecture firm. It was commissioned by the Bureau of Port and Harbour, a unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The building is built largely of steel-reinforced concrete except for the roof, which is a steel pipe space-truss structure. The structural design was by Kozo Keikaku Engineering. The complex was substantially completed in March 1993. The swimming centre was used for the water polo events at the 2020 Summer Olympics, with the name Tatsumi Water Polo Centre. Markus Thormeyer
Markus Thormeyer (born August 25, 1997) is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle and backstroke. Originally from Delta, Thormeyer moved in 2015 to Vancouver, British Columbia after graduating high school to train with the High Performance Centre-Vancouver. While he swims he is also pursuing an undergraduate degree in environmental science at the University of British Columbia. Career Thormeyer began swimming at the age of 10 for the Markham Aquatic Club in Markham, Ontario but moved across the country to Delta, British Columbia shortly after he started. He continued to swim competitively under the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club through to his high school graduation. 2013–2016 As an age-group swimmer, Thormeyer made a name for himself on the Canadian swimming scene. Career His first international appearance came at the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, where he placed 18th in the 50m butterfly, 6th in the 4x100 metre medley relay, and 11th in the 100-m butterfly setting a new Junior Canadian Record of 53.86.
