2018 North Carolina FC Season
The 2018 North Carolina FC season was the club's 12th season of existence. Until the 2017 season, the club was previously known as the ''Carolina RailHawks''. The 2018 season was the clubs first in the USL, having left the NASL at the end of the 2017 season. For the first time since 2009 and its fourth in club history, North Carolina won the Southern Derby, a fan-based U.S. professional soccer cup competition between North Carolina, Charleston Battery, and Charlotte Independence. North Carolina finished the regular season in 9th place with 47 points, missing out on the playoffs by 2 points to Nashville. North Carolina FC is an American professional soccer team in Cary, North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh. Founded in 2006, the team plays in USL League One, the third tier of the American league system. The team has played its home games at the 10,000-seat WakeMed Soccer Park since 2007. The team's colors are Atlantic blue, cardinal red, and Southern gold. On December 6, 2016, the Carolina RailHawks announced a name change to North Carolina Football Club in pursuit of becoming a Major League Soccer franchise. The club's home attendance record had been broken earlier that year when 10,125 attended a match against West Ham United of the English Premier League. North American Soccer League (2011–2017)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional men's soccer league based in the United States. The league was named for, but had no connection to, the original North American Soccer League. The later NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 with eight teams. From 2013 through 2017, the NASL used a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined spring/fall records met in a four-team single-elimination tournament known as ''The Championship''. Moer Yhan "Peabo" De Doue (born December 28, 1991, in Takoma Park, Maryland) is an American former association football, soccer player who played as a Defender (association football), defender. Career Early career Doue began playing youth soccer for MSC United, coached by Julio Arjona. He also spent three seasons playing for Bethesda SC Roadrunners. Nicolas Platter (born November 22, 1981, in Los Angeles, California) is an American soccer player who currently is the goalkeeper coach for North Carolina FC. Career College Platter played college soccer at the University of California, Davis, where is generally considered to be one of the most successful goalkeepers in UC Davis history. He finished his career at UC Davis as the all-time shutout leader with 17, and as the career saves leader with 195. He was also his team's captain since 2003. Greg Shields (born 21 August 1976) is a Scottish football player and coach, who is currently Head of Academy - Football with Dunfermline Athletic. His playing career was most closely associated with Dunfermline Athletic, as he played for the club over 200 times across two spells and was their captain in two national cup finals. Dewan Bader (born April 8, 1971) is an American soccer coach and former player who played as a defender. Youth Bader grew up in Rockville, Maryland, where his early high school years were spent at Woodward High School. When it closed after his sophomore season, he moved to Walter Johnson High School where he was an All State and Parade Magazine High School All American his senior season. Colin John Clarke (born 30 October 1962) is a Northern Irish retired footballer who played as a forward, and a former head coach.
