2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's 4 × 400 Metres Relay
The men's 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 3 and 4 March 2018. Summary In the heats, the Dominican Republic rested their star, disqualified silver medalist Luguelín Santos. They didn't qualify and Santos did not get to run the final. Similarly, USA was able to rest their stars, Michael Cherry and Aldrich Bailey while successfully qualifying for the final. In the final, USA was out fast with Fred Kerley having a marginal edge at the break, but extending it by running an efficient tangent from lane 6, netting himself a 3-metre lead over Poland's Karol Zalewski. Zalewski kept that gap for most of the second lap, losing a little ground in the handoff. Kerley's split 44.84. Arena Birmingham
Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena was renamed Utilita Arena Birmingham on 15 April 2020. The arena is located alongside the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line's Old Turn Junction and opposite the National Sea Life Centre in Brindleyplace. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's 4 × 400 Metres Relay
The men's 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 19 and 20, 2016. In the first leg of the final, Bahamas' Michael Mathieu was the first to break, keeping Kyle Clemons behind him through the entire leg. Dylan Borlée from the Borlée Brothers Team, Belgium, held off Jamaica's Ricardo Chambers until just before the handoff. The USA executed an ideal first handoff, with Clemons just edging ahead of Mathieu on the final straightaway, reaching across the zone to hand off to Calvin Smith Jr. who gained a two-metre lead over Alonzo Russell in the exchange. From there, USA went unchallenged to the gold medal, continually expanding the lead. After a short battle with Jamaica's Dane Hyatt, Jonathan Borlée ducked in behind Russell. Sebastian William Gregory "Seb" Rodger (born 29 June 1991) is a British athlete specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. In 2013, he won a silver medal at the European U23 Championships and reached the semifinals of the World Championships. He also represented Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Career Rodger, who was born in Brighton, began concentrating on the 400 metres hurdles in 2011, having previously been a decathlete with a personal best score of 7200 points in 2010. Lalonde Keida Gordon, HBM (born 25 November 1988) is a Tobagonian male track and field sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. He won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics with a personal best of 44.52 seconds. He is the third fastest 400 m runner from his country after Machel Cedenio and Ian Morris. Aldrich Bailey Jr. (born February 6, 1994) is an American sprinter. He graduated from Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas in 2012, and was committed to Texas A&M University in 2012. In 2014 Bailey transferred to the University of Texas as a Track and Field Athlete. On April 28, 2012, Bailey broke the U.S. High School Record in the 400 metres, previously held by Calvin Harrison of North Salinas High School, at the Texas Class 5A Region I meet in Lubbock, Texas. Harrison had held the record since 1993, a year before Bailey was born. He was an All-USA high school track and field team selection by ''USA Today'' in 2011 and 2012. Luguelín Miguel Santos Aquino (born 12 November 1992) is a Dominican sprinter, who specialises in the 400 m. He was the silver medallist in the event at the 2012 London Olympics at the age of eighteen. His personal best is 44.11 seconds. Santos emerged with two gold medals at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and made his senior breakthrough at the 2011 Pan American Games, taking individual and relay silver medals with Dominican national record times. 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 17th IAAF World Indoor Championships was held from 1 to 4 March 2018 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This was the city's second hosting of the event as it previously did so in 2003. Bidding process Birmingham bid for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships as well as the 2018 event. Portland was selected unanimously to host the 2016 event with Birmingham being the only other bidder. With Portland then out of the running for the 2018 event Birmingham was selected as the host of the 2018 event. The reason Portland was selected for 2016 and Birmingham for 2018 is that the IAAF wanted more time between events in the UK with London hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics as well as the 2017 World Championships in Athletics along with Cardiff hosting the 2016 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.
