2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's 3000 Metres
The men's 3000 metres at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 and 4 March 2018. Summary With more lane violations being called even as they would be less significant in a race of this distance, four were disqualified in the heats, most notably Olympic silver medalist Paul Chelimo, jostled into taking one step inside the rail. The final began at a jog, with first Yassin Bouih stepping out to the lead, then Clemens Bleistein to lead the race through at 1:14.58 first 400. The three Ethiopian runners all went to the back of the pack. Davis Kiplangat moved to the front but didn't really push the pace. After another lap, Adel Mechaal took the point, the next 400 accomplished even slower in at 1:15.12. Arena Birmingham
Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena was renamed Utilita Arena Birmingham on 15 April 2020. Shadrack Kipchirchir (born February 22, 1989) is a Kenyan-born American distance track and field Olympian specializing in the 10,000 m. Following in his brothers footsteps, Kipchirchir enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 2014 and joined the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program after his enlistment. He is a silver medalist at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000 meters and placed second in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials - Track & Field 10,000 m. He ran 27:58.32 and finished 19th for the 2016 Summer Olympics 8th in 3000 meters at the 2018 World Championships. Kemoy Campbell (born January 14, 1991) is a retired Jamaican distance runner who competed in various events from 800 meters to 5000 metres. Since competing in the American collegiate circuit, he has developed a reputation for having remarkable range, having competitive experience from the 800 meters to the 10K. Campbell holds multiple Jamaican records in athletics. Running career Youth As a youngster, Campbell ran on the track team of Bellefield High School, in Manchester Parish, Jamaica. Jonathan Stuart Davies (born 28 October 1994) is an English middle- and long-distance runner. He represented Great Britain at the 2018 World Indoor Championships without advancing from the first round. In addition, he won two medals at the 2017 Summer Universiade. Hamish Carson (born 1 November 1988) is a middle distance athlete from New Zealand. He represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 1500 metres. Career Carson was educated at Kapiti College. During his childhood, Carson participated in a wide range of sporting activities, including athletics, field hockey and skiing. Carson took up cross country skiing in Wānaka in the winter of 2001. After two seasons of downhill skiing at Ruapehu, he won the national championships in both the classic and freestyle forms for the M12 age grade. He initially took up harriers to maintain his fitness for cross country skiing. Biography Junior Athlete (- 2016) Ndikumwenayo was introduced to athletics in 2012 by a friend, who challenged him to a race. By 2014, as a 17-year-old, he won the silver medal in the boys' 3000 metres event at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics held in Nanjing, China. After that performance, he was invited to train in Spain as part of a project offering opportunities to Burundian and Sudanese runners. He subsequently became a member of Playas de Castellon athletics club, who paid for his accommodation.
