2014 Greenwich London Borough Council Election
The 2014 Greenwich Council election took place on 22 May 2014 to elect members of Greenwich London Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. At the 2014 elections, Labour won 43 seats (+3) and the Conservatives won 8 (-3). An Eltham North by-election on 10 November 2016 saw the Conservatives gain a seat from Labour with an 11% swing in their favour. This meant the opposition on the council increased to 9 seats. Greenwich London Borough Council
Greenwich London Borough Council is the local authority for the Royal Borough of Greenwich in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in the United Kingdom capital of London. Greenwich is divided into 23 wards, electing a total of 55 councillors. The council was created by the London Government Act 1963 and replaced two local authorities: Greenwich Metropolitan Borough Council and Woolwich Metropolitan Borough Council. Council elections in England were held on Thursday 3 May 2018. Elections were held in all 32 London boroughs, 34 metropolitan boroughs, 67 district and borough councils and 17 unitary authorities. There were also direct elections for the mayoralties of Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Watford. With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the seats up for election were last contested in the 2014 local elections. Peter Robin Whittle (born 6 January 1961) is a British politician, author, journalist and broadcaster who served as a Member of the London Assembly from 2016 to 2021 and as Deputy Leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) to Paul Nuttall from 2016 to 2017. He is the founder and director of the New Culture Forum think tank and host of ''So What You're Saying Is...'', a weekly cultural and political interview show on YouTube. After a career in media in the United Kingdom and United States, Whittle founded the New Culture Forum in 2006. Antony Higginbotham (born 16 December 1989) is a British Conservative politician who was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Burnley in the 2019 general election. Early life Higginbotham was born in Haslingden, Rossendale, Lancashire. He attended Haslingden High School and went on to study British Politics at Hull University, becoming the first in his family to attend university. After graduating, he briefly worked for the NHS. The Renew Party was a minor centrist political party in the United Kingdom. It was set up in 2017 to provide an alternative for moderate voters in the wake of the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum.
