2018 Georgia Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Georgia on November 6, 2018. All of Georgia's executive officers were up for election as well as all of Georgia's fourteen seats in the United States House of Representatives. Neither U.S. Senate seat was up for election in 2018. The Republican Party won every statewide office in 2018. Governor Incumbent Republican Governor Nathan Deal was term-limited and unable to seek re-election to a third consecutive term. Secretary of State Brian Kemp won the Republican nomination, defeating incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle in a runoff election. Georgia General Assembly Minority Leader Stacey Abrams won the Democratic nomination. Ted Metz ran for the Libertarian Party. Kemp beat Abrams following a very divisive campaign. Jim Butterworth (politician)
Jim Butterworth was appointed Director of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency by Governor Nathan Deal in January 2015. Previously, Butterworth served as the adjutant general (TAG) of the Georgia National Guard. Early life and education Butterworth is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, and was active in Air Force ROTC. He was named "AFROTC Cadet of the Year" two of his four years at Georgia. Early career Butterworth was appointed by Governor Deal to adjutant general and promoted to the state rank of major general. Prior to his appointment, the highest rank he attained was captain. He was never recognized by the U.S. Air Force as a general officer nor rank above major though he continued to refer to himself as a Major General. Stacey Evans
Stacey Godfrey Evans (born May 5, 1978) is an American politician and Georgia State Representative for District 57 starting in 2021. She received 56.8% of the primary vote, and was uncontested in the general election. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the Georgia State Representative for District 42 from 2011 to 2014. She was succeeded by Teri Anulewicz. Evans was reelected three times in District 42, most recently receiving 73.25% of the vote in 2016. She resigned her legislative seat to focus on her bid for the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election; she finished second in the Democratic primary. Kennesaw State University
Kennesaw State University (KSU) is a public research university located in the state of Georgia with two different campuses in the Atlanta metropolitan area, one in Kennesaw and the other in Marietta on a combined of land. The school was founded in 1963 by the Georgia Board of Regents using local bonds and a federal space-grant during a time of major Georgia economic expansion after World War II. Samuel Scott Olens (born July 8, 1957) is an American lawyer and politician who served as Attorney General of Georgia. Olens was elected Georgia AG in 2010, resigning on November 1, 2016 (two years prior to the end of his term), following his appointment as President of Kennesaw State University. Rick Jeffares is an American politician who served in the Georgia State Senate as a member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party from 2010-2017. He represented Senate District 17, which encompasses Henry, Newton, and Rockdale Counties. In 2018, Jeffares was running as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. Kenneth (Ken) B. Hodges III (born September 22, 1965) is a Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the former Dougherty County District Attorney and was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Georgia in 2010. In 2015, Hodges started his own law firm, Ken Hodges Law, based out of Atlanta and Albany. Hodges won an open seat in a contested race on the Georgia Court of Appeals in 2018, earning nearly 70% of the state-wide vote. Dougherty County is located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 85,790. The county seat and sole incorporated city is Albany.
