2018 Gent–Wevelgem (women's Race)
The seventh running of Gent–Wevelgem's women's race (also known as ''Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields'') was a cycling event held in Belgium on Sunday 25 March 2018. It was the fifth leg of the 2018 UCI Women's World Tour. The race started in Ypres and finished in Wevelgem. Italian Marta Bastianelli won the race in a group sprint before Belgian Jolien D'Hoore and German Lisa Klein (cyclist), Lisa Klein. 2018 UCI Women's World Tour
The 2018 UCI Women's World Tour was a competition that included twenty-four road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2018 in women's road cycling, 2018 women's cycling season. It was the third edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2016. The competition began with 2018 Strade Bianche Women, Strade Bianche on 3 March and concluded with the Tour of Guangxi on 21 October. Anna van der Breggen of the Netherlands was the defending champion. Van der Breggen, riding for the team, was unable to defend her title, as she finished third in the standings behind compatriots Annemiek van Vleuten () and Marianne Vos, who was riding for the squad. Letizia Paternoster (born 22 July 1999) is an Italian road and track cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . In October 2017, she won gold in the team pursuit at the 2017 UEC European Track Championships in Berlin. Floortje Mackaij (born 18 October 1995) is a Dutch professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . After switching from speed skating to road cycling she became the 2013 junior Dutch National time trial Champion and won a silver medal in the junior time trial at the 2013 European Road Championships. In the same year she represented her country at the UCI Road World Championships in the junior time trial and road race. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (née Moolman; born 9 December 1985) is a South African professional female road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Hannah Mary Barnes (born 4 May 1993) is a British racing cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She is the sister of fellow racing cyclist Alice Barnes, who rides for . Career Born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Barnes grew up in Bladon, Oxfordshire and later moved to Towcester, Northamptonshire. Barnes began cycling with Milton Keynes based Team Keyne at the age of 10, before joining Palmer Park Velo in Reading after she was spotted and invited to join British Cycling's Talent Team. Amy Pieters (born 1 June 1991) is a Dutch professional road and track cyclist, who is contracted to ride for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She was a member of the Dutch team that finished sixth at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the team pursuit (together with Ellen van Dijk, Kirsten Wild and Vera Koedooder). On 23 December 2021, Pieters was placed in an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain caused by a fall that day during a training ride near Alicante with the Dutch national track team.
