2018 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Super-G
The men's super-G in the 2018 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved six events including the final in Åre, Sweden. Norwegian skier Kjetil Jansrud, the defending champion in the discipline, won two of the first five races and finished second in two more, clinching the crystal globe for the season before the final. The season was interrupted by the 2018 Winter Olympics from 12-24 February 2018 at Yongpyong Alpine Centre (slalom and giant slalom) at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang and at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre (speed events) in Jeongseon, South Korea. The men's super-G was held on 16 February, one day later than originally scheduled due to other postponements. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Super-G
The men's super-G competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 16 February 2018 at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre in PyeongChang. Originally set to be held on 15 February 2018, the race was rescheduled to 16 February 2018 after high winds forcing the men's downhill race on 11 February 2018 to be moved to 15 February 2018. In the victory ceremony, the medals were presented by Paul Tergat, member of the International Olympic Committee, accompanied by Peter Schroecksnadel, FIS Council member. Qualification A total of up to 320 alpine skiers qualified across all eleven events. Athletes qualified for this event by having met the A qualification standard only, which meant having 80 or less FIS Points and being ranked in the top 500 in the Olympic FIS points list. Max Franz (born 1 September 1989) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, he focuses on the speed events of Downhill and Super-G. Career Franz made his World Cup debut in November 2009 at Lake Louise, Canada. Three years later, Franz made his first World Cup podium in November 2012, in the Downhill at Lake Louise. Johannes "Hannes" Reichelt (born 5 July 1980) is a retired Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. He competed mainly in downhill and super-G, as well as in giant slalom. Biography Born in Altenmarkt im Pongau in Salzburg, Reichelt made his World Cup debut in December 2001. He made his first podium in December 2002 and won his first World Cup race, a super-G, in December 2005. Kvitfjell ( no, White mountain) is a ski resort in Norway, located in the municipality of Ringebu. Hahnenkamm, Kitzbühel
The Hahnenkamm is a mountain in Europe, directly southwest of Kitzbühel in the Kitzbühel Alps of Austria. The elevation of its summit is above sea level. The Hahnenkamm (''German'': rooster's comb) is part of the ski resort of Kitzbühel, and hosts an annual World Cup alpine ski race, the ''Hahnenkammrennen''. The most famous slope on the Hahnenkamm is the classic downhill course, the '' Streif'' (streak, or stripe), which is regarded as the most demanding race course on the World Cup circuit. The course features highly technical, "fall-away" turns (reverse bank), many with limited visibility. It also contains several flat gliding sections, immediately preceded by difficult turns, placing a premium on both technical and gliding skills.
