2018 AFF Championship Qualification
The 2018 AFF Championship qualification tournament was the qualification process for the 2018 AFF Championship, the twelfth edition of the AFF Championship. Brunei and Timor-Leste contested the tenth and final remaining berth for the AFF Championship final tournament in two home-and-away matches. On 7 August 2018, organising committees confirmed the venue where Timor-Leste will play Brunei has been changed due to floodlighting issues. The opening match was held at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Malaysia, not as per originally planned at National Stadium, Dili. Timor-Leste advanced to the AFF Championship group stage and were placed in Group B after winning by 3–2 on aggregate from two qualifying matches. Timor-Leste National Football Team
The Timor-Leste national football team is the national team of East Timor () and is controlled by the Federação de Futebol de Timor-Leste. They joined FIFA on 12 September 2005. Timor-Leste's international debut was in the preliminary round of the 2004 AFC Asian Cup qualification in March 2003, when they lost 3–2 to Sri Lanka and 3–0 to Chinese Taipei. They also participated in the 2004 AFF Championship. Timor-Leste's participation in Southeast Asia's premier international football event in 2004 was announced after an Asian Football Confederation council meeting in Petaling Jaya. Although not yet a member of the AFC, the Timor-Leste Football Association was invited to sit in on the meeting, where they were represented by FA president Francia Kalbuadi. The National Stadium of East Timor ( pt, Estádio Nacional de Timor-Leste, tet, Stadion Nasional Timor Lorosa'e), also known as the Municipal Stadium of Dili ( pt, Estádio Municipal de Díli, links=no, tet, Estadiu Munisipal Díli, links=no), is a multi-purpose stadium in Dili, East Timor. Mohamad Najib bin Haji Tarif is a Bruneian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder or defender for DPMM and the Brunei national team. Club career Starting out with the likes of NBT FC and AM Gunners of the Brunei Premier League, Najib's performances at the 2012 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy as team captain prompted a move from MS PDB to Brunei's only professional club, DPMM. Muhammad Azwan bin Ali Rahman (bron 11 January 1992) is a Bruneian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for DPMM FC and the Brunei national team. He is his club's current captain.
