2017–18 SIU Edwardsville Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 SIU Edwardsville Cougars men's basketball team represented Southern Illinois University Edwardsville during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cougars, led by third year head coach Jon Harris (basketball), Jon Harris, played their home games at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 9–21, 5–13 in OVC play to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place. Due to 2017–18 Southeast Missouri State Redhawks men's basketball team, Southeast Missouri State being ineligible for postseason play due to APR violations, the Cougars received the No. 8 seed in the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament, OVC tournament where they lost in the first round to 2017–18 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles men's basketball team, Tennessee Tech. Jon Harris (basketball)
Jon Harris is an American college basketball coach who is the former men's head coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), an NCAA Division I program competing in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). A high school star at Edwardsville High School, Harris played collegiately at Marquette University. He was named the SIUE Cougars' new coach in April 2015 after spending thirteen years as an assistant in five different Division I programs. On March 11, 2019, SIUE announced that Harris' contract had not been renewed. Harris is currently (Fall 2019) a Recruiting Specialist for Next College Student Athlete, a company that facilitates the contacting of college coaches by high school and middle school students.
