2017–18 Atalanta BC Season
The 2017–18 season was Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio's seventh consecutive season in Serie A. The club competed in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, and had qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League following a fourth-place finish the previous season, the club's best league result at the time. The season was coach Gian Piero Gasperini's second at the club. Atalanta ended the season in 7th, qualifying for the second qualifying round of the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League. The club was eliminated in the Coppa Italia by eventual winners Juventus, in the semi-finals. Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio (), commonly referred to as Atalanta, is a professional football club based in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy, who compete in Serie A, the top tier of the Italian league system. Founded in 1907, Atalanta holds the record for having played the most Serie A seasons (64) without being based in a regional capital and without having won the league title. Etrit Fadil Berisha (; born 10 March 1989) is an Albanian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Allsvenskan club Häcken and captains the Albania national team. Berisha began his career at local club KF 2 Korriku as a youngster, as well also playing youth football with KF KEK, before joining Kalmar in 2008, initially as part of their youth setup. Timothy Castagne (; born 5 December 1995) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a full back for club Fulham and the Belgium national team. Castagne began his senior career with Genk after graduating from the club's youth academy. After moving to Italy with Atalanta in 2017, he was signed by English side Leicester City in 2020, with whom he won the FA Cup in 2021. He joined Fulham in 2023. Mattia Caldara (; born 5 May 1994) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Serie B club Modena. José Luis Palomino (born 5 January 1990) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. Palomino is capable in both aerial play and tackling. Andrea Masiello (born 5 February 1986) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Südtirol. He is perhaps best known for match-fixing in the Derby of Puglia, whilst playing for Bari, scoring an own goal to guarantee Lecce survival in Serie A.
