2017 World RX Of Sweden
The 2017 World RX of Sweden, formally known as the 2017 Swecon World RX of Sweden, for sponsorship reasons, was the seventh round of the fourth season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The event was held at the Höljesbanan in the village of Höljes, Värmland and also hosted round six of the European Rallycross Championship and round four of the RX2 International Series, the main support category for the World Rallycross Championship. Background Reigning world champion and second in the 2017 standings, Mattias Ekström, was absent from the event due to his commitment in the DTM at the Norisring, held on the same weekend. Swedish rally driver Per-Gunnar Andersson was selected by EKS RX as Ekström's replacement, while Reinis Nitišs was nominated as the point scorer for EKS RX in the Teams' Championship, alongside Toomas Heikkinen. Höljesbanan
Höljesbanan, also known as Höljes Motorstadion, is a rallycross circuit situated in the village of Höljes, in the Finnskogen ('Finnwoods') of the Swedish county Värmland, beside the river Klarälven and close to the Norwegian border. The circuit opened in February 1976 and is one of the most famous rallycross circuits in the world. Traditionally held over the first weekend of July the venue plays host to the so-called 'Magic Weekend' of rallycross when it runs the Swedish round of the European and World Rallycross championships. History The circuit was originally part of a go-kart centre opened in 1972 by the Finnskoga Motorklubb following the influx of Swedish drivers into Formula One, but quickly fell into disuse and it was decided the nearby gravel pit was to be turned into a rallycross circuit in October 1974. Per-Gunnar Andersson (rally Driver)
Per-Gunnar "P-G" Andersson (born 10 March 1980 in Årjäng) is a Swedish rally driver. He is a two-time winner of the Junior World Rally Championship. Career Andersson was competing in Junior World Rally Championship since 2003. He became JWRC champion in 2004 during his first complete season. Piloting a Suzuki Ignis S1600, he earned three wins, a second place, an eight place, and two retirements. He scored 39 points during this year while runner-up Nicolas Bernardi, piloting Renault Clio S1600, scored only 2 fewer points. In 2005 season, Andersson continued competing in the JWRC with Suzuki Ignis S1600 and later Suzuki Swift S1600. Although he won Rally Acropolis, the rest of season wasn't that successful and, in final standings, Andersson finished sixth with 30 points. In 2006, Andersson was still racing in JWRC with a Suzuki Swift S1600. He won Rally Sweden but was excluded from Rally Turkey and crashed at Rally GB. Kevin Eriksson (born July 16, 1996) is a Swedish racing driver currently participating in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. He is the son of Olsbergs MSE team owner Andréas Eriksson. He won the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, driving for Team Peugeot-Hansen. Sebastian Eriksson is a Swedish rallycross driver. He is a former participant in the Global Rallycross Championship, and currently competes in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Throughout his entire professional racing career, he has raced exclusively for Olsbergs MSE. Eriksson participated in the Light prototype class of the 2022 Dakar Rally in a team with Dutch co-driver Wouter Rosegaar. They finished in second place in their class. Olsbergs MSE, which also competes under the title OMSE, is an auto racing team founded by Swedish former rally champion Andréas Eriksson as Motorsport Evolution (MSE) in 2005.
