Javelin Throw
The javelin throw is a track and field event where the javelin, a spear about in length, is thrown. The javelin thrower gains momentum by running within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing is an event of both the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. History The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. It included two events, one for distance and the other for accuracy in hitting a target. The javelin was thrown with the aid of a thong ('' ankyle'' in Greek) that was wound around the middle of the shaft. Athletes held the javelin by the ''ankyle'', and when they released the shaft, the unwinding of the thong gave the javelin a spiral trajectory. Throwing javelin-like poles into targets was revived in Germany and Sweden in the early 1870s. Jayden Sawyer
Jayden Sawyer (born 26 September 1993) is an Australian para athlete who competes mainly in the F38 category in throwing events. He won has won gold and bronze medals at the World Para Athletics Championships. He competed at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics. Personal Sawyer was born on 26 September 1993 and has cerebral palsy. He attended Gold Creek School, Canberra. Sawyer was originally coached by Chris Timson and resides in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. He holds a Certificate III in Hospitality. Sporting career In 2011, Sawyer competed in the Australian Athletics Championships where he won a gold and bronze in javelin and shot put. Herath Mudiyansalage Dinesh Priyantha, also simply known as Dinesh Priyantha (born 15 July 1986), is a Sri Lankan Paralympian, Paralympic track and field athlete who competes in javelin T46 (classification), T46 events. He also served as an important member for the Sri Lanka Army during the Sri Lankan Civil War. He was disabled after being shot at his left arm during the final stages of the war. He is the defending Paralympic champion in men's javelin throw F46 category. Sundar Singh Gurjar (born 1 January 1996 in Karauli, Rajasthan) is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower, shot putter and discus thrower competing in F46 events. He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event. He set a world record at the 16th Para Athletics National Championship in Panchkula holding three gold medals in three events. He is also recipient of Arjuna Award for Para-athletics. F46 (classification)
T46 and F46 are disability sport classification for disability athletics. People in this class have a single below or above the elbow amputation. The amputee sports equivalent class is ISOD the A6 and A8 classes. People in this class can have injuries as a result of over use of their remaining upper limb. The classification process to be included in this class has four parts: a medical exam, observation during training, observation during competition and then being classified into this class. Definition This classification is for disability athletics. T46 is for track events and F46 is for field events. This classification is one of several classifications for athletes with ambulant related disabilities. Similar classifications are T40, T42, T43, T44, T45 and T47. Alister McQueen
Alister McQueen (born 19 June 1991) is a Canadian athlete who competes in T44 classification track and field events. He was born with only one bone in his left lower leg, and his foot was amputated so he could wear a prosthesis. He is active in several sports. Helgi Sveinsson
Helgi Sveinsson (born 11 June 1979) is a Paralympian athlete from Iceland competing in throwing, sprint and jumping events. He is a F42/T42 category athlete. At the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships he threw a competition record to take the gold medal. Sport career Sveinsson was born in Reykjavík in 1979. A keen sportsman, he played handball at a semi-professional level for several Icelandic clubs. His sporting career was halted when he was diagnosed with bone cancer. At the age of 20, in an attempt to combat the disease his left leg was amputated above the knee. In 2010 he was introduced to Paralympic sport, and in 2011 took on a coach. His natural athletic ability allowed Sveinsson to compete in multiple fields, competing in the long jump, sprint and javelin throw. Akeem Stewart (born 4 July 1992) is a Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic athlete competing in F43/ F44-classification discus throw, javelin throw and shot put events. Stewart represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw F44 event and the silver medal in the men's discus throw F44 event. Wildan Nezar Al-Nukhailawi (born 10 August 1986) is a Paralympian athlete from Iraq competing in the F41 classification throwing events. He won a bronze medal in the javelin at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and followed this four years later with a silver in the same event at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
