2017 Tour Of California (women's Race)
The 2017 Amgen Tour of California Women's Race (also known as the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease Women's Race empowered with SRAM for sponsorship reasons) was the third edition of the women's Tour of California cycling stage race. It ran from 11 to 14 May 2017, and was part of the 2017 UCI Women's World Tour; the race started in South Lake Tahoe and finished in Sacramento. The race was won on the final day by rider Anna van der Breggen, surpassing 's Katie Hall thanks to bonus seconds won at an intermediate sprint. As a result, van der Breggen took the lead of the Women's World Tour standings. Teams 17 teams participated in the 2017 Tour of California; 16 teams announced in March 2017, with further amendments made to the field in the week leading up to the race. 2017 UCI Women's World Tour
The 2017 UCI Women's World Tour was the second edition of the UCI Women's World Tour. For the 2017 season, the calendar consisted of 20 races, up from 17 in 2016. Two one-day races – the Amstel Gold Race and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, to complete an Ardennes classics week – were added along with the Ladies Tour of Norway and the Holland Ladies Tour; all 2016 races returned for the 2017 calendar, with the exception of the cancelled Philadelphia International Cycling Classic. The individual classification was won by Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen, riding for the team. Van der Breggen took the lead of the standings after winning the Tour of California, and after losing the lead to Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma () after the Women's Tour, van der Breggen regained the lead after victory at the Giro d'Italia Femminile. Alena Vasileŭna Amialiusik ( be, Алена Васільеўна Амялюсік; born 6 February 1989) is a Belarusian road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, finishing 15th. She was announced as a member of the squad for the 2015 season. She also competed in the 2015 European Games for Belarus, in cycling, more specifically, the women's road race and earned a gold medal. At the World Championships in Richmond, she also won a gold medal on the team time trial with her team . In November 2015 she was announced as part of the team's inaugural squad for the 2016 season. Ruth Joyce Winder (born July 9, 1993) is a British-born American professional cyclist. She took up the sport as a teenager, and went on to turn professional with in 2014. In July 2021 Winder announced that she would retire from professional competition at the end of the season. During the 2021 UCI Road World Championships in Flanders, she was elected to a four-year term as a representative for road cycling on the Union Cycliste Internationale Athletes' Commission, winning 83 percent of the vote. The Tour of California (officially sponsored as the Amgen Tour of California) was an annual professional road bicycle racing, road cycling stage race on the UCI World Tour and USA Cycling Professional Tour that ran from 2006 to 2019. It was the only event on the top-level World Tour in the United States. The eight-day race covered 650–700 miles (1,045–1,126 km) through the U.S. state of California. A typical edition might begin in the Sierra Nevada (U.S.), Sierra Nevada in northern California, travel through the Sequoia sempervirens, Redwood forests, Wine Country (California), California's Wine Country and the Pacific Coast, and finish in southern California. Giorgia Bronzini
Giorgia Bronzini (born 3 August 1983) is an Italian former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2003 and 2017. She won the women's road race in the UCI Road World Championships in both 2010 and 2011 and the women's points race in the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2009. Born in Piacenza, Bronzini took a total of 80 victories on the road and the track, including stages of the Giro d'Italia Femminile, La Route de France, the Tour of Qatar, the Tour of California, and the Tour of Chongming Island. After a 16-year career, in August 2018 Bronzini announced that she would retire at the end of the season and become a ''directeur sportif'' with Trek Bicycle Corporation's new women's team, in 2019.
