A Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island leadership election was held on October 20, 2017 choosing MLA James Aylward as the new leader. Previous party leader Rob Lantz resigned on September 23, 2015 after serving only seven months. The interim party leader was MLA Jamie Fox, from Lantz's resignation to Aylward's election. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. It was the site of the famous Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering of Canadian and Maritime statesmen to discuss the proposed Maritime Union. This conference led, instead, to the union of British North American colonies in 1867, which was the beginning of the Canadian confederation. PEI, however, did not join Confederation until 1873. 2015 Progressive Conservative Party Of Prince Edward Island Leadership Election
The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island selected a new leader on February 28, 2015, to replace Olive Crane who resigned on January 31, 2013. The Progressive Conservatives have been the Official Opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island since June 12, 2007, having lost the 2007 and 2011 provincial elections to the Liberals. The interim leader was Steven Myers. The party used a preferential ballot for its leadership convention for the first time. Voting also occurred at satellite voting sites in Bloomfield, Summerside, Souris and Montague. The election was won by former Charlottetown City Councillor Rob Lantz on the second ballot. The party executive decided prior to voting not to release vote totals in the interests of party unity; however it was later reported that Compton was eliminated after the first ballot and that Lantz then narrowly defeated Aylward on the second ballot. Steven Myers (politician)
Steven Myers (born 8 December 1972) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2011 provincial election. He represents the district of Georgetown-Pownal as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island and was Leader of the Opposition in the legislature, from 2013 to 2015. He was chosen interim leader of the PEI Progressive Conservative Party on January 31, 2013, following party leader Olive Crane's resignation, and became Opposition leader on February 11, 2013, when Hal Perry relinquished the role. Myers' tenure as PC interim leader came to an end on February 28, 2015, upon the election of Rob Lantz as leader. Lantz, who failed to win a seat in the legislature in the 2015 provincial election requested that Myers remain as opposition leader; Myers accepted. Alan Mulholland (politician)
Alan Mulholland (born 1968) is an Irish Gaelic football former manager and player. He was manager of the senior Galway county team from 2011 until 2014, having previously been manager of the minor and under-21 teams. In 2007, Mulholland guided Galway to the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, defeating Derry, as well as guiding them to the U21 Final in which they defeated Cavan in May 2011. Rob Lantz
Rob Lantz is a Canadian politician. He was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island for seven months in 2015, having been elected during the party's leadership election on February 28, 2015. From 2006 to 2014, Lantz was a member of the Charlottetown City Council. Lantz led the party in the 2015 provincial election, but fell 24 votes short in his attempt to win his own seat representing the riding of Charlottetown-Brighton in the provincial legislature. The margin was reduced to 22 votes after a recount. Lantz resigned as PC leader on September 23, 2015.
