2017 PSA Annual Awards
The 2017 PSA Annual Awards was an awarding ceremony, recognizing the sports athletes, personalities, organizations and NSAs for the year 2016. It is organized by the Philippine Sportswriters Association, the Philippines' oldest media organization founded in 1949, with members composed by sports section editors, sportswriters and sports columnists from major national broadsheets, tabloids and online sports news portals. PSA is currently headed by Riera Mallari, sports editor of the '' Manila Standard''. The awards night took place at the Le Pavillon, Pasay on February 13, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. ( UTC +08). The awards night was hosted by veteran sports broadcaster Quinito Henson and Sports5 head Patricia Bermudez-Hizon with Carla Lizardo and Steph Ongkiko as the co-hosts. Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) is the Sports governing body, National Sports Association (NSA) for Athletics (sport), athletics sports such as track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking in the Philippines, including the core athletics sports which constitute the Decathlon in the Olympic Games. PATAFA is also a member of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and the World Athletics. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Philip Ella Juico
Philip Ella Juico is a Filipino sports official. He is the chairman emeritus of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA), the NSA for athletics in the Philippines. He was president of PATAFA from 2015 to 2022. Juico served as Secretary of Agrarian Reform from 1987 to 1989. He was Dean of the Graduate School of Business of De La Salle Professional Schools in the Philippines from 2002 to 2008. Education Philip Juico studied at De La Salle University. Eugene Torre
Eugenio "Eugene" Torre (born November 4, 1951) is a Filipino chess player. In 1974, at 22 years old, he became not just the first Filipino but also the first Asian to qualify for the title Grandmaster. Torre did this by winning the silver medal in the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, France. He is considered the strongest chess player the Philippines produced during the 1980s and 1990s, and played for the Philippines on board 1 in seventeen Chess Olympiads. In 2021, Torre was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame. In a tournament in Manila in 1976, Torre was then the only one to beat the then-reigning World Champion Anatoly Karpov in a game that has become part of Filipino chess history. Powerlifting
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift.
