2017 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men's Soccer Team
The 2017 Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's soccer team will represent University of Notre Dame during the 2017 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It will be the program's 40th season. It will be the program's 5th season competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Fighting Irish will be led by head coach Bobby Clark, in his seventeenth year. Bobby Clark (footballer, Born 1945)
Robert Brown Clark (born 26 September 1945) is a Scottish football player and coach. Clark, who played as a goalkeeper, spent most of his playing career with Aberdeen. He also played for Queen's Park, Washington Whips, San Antonio Thunder and Clyde. Clark played 17 times for Scotland and represented the Scottish League. He later became a coach, mainly working in New Zealand and the United States. The Valparaiso Crusaders men's soccer team represented Valparaiso University (Valpo) in NCAA Division I soccer competition as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference The Crusaders played home matches at Brown Field on the Valpo campus in Valparaiso, Indiana. History Valparaiso began playing men's soccer in 1983. The Beacons were a charter member of the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982 and entered Mid-Con soccer competition in 1988. In 2007, Valpo began a ten-year all-sports membership in the Horizon League. In May 2017, the Missouri Valley Conference extended an invitation for the Crusaders to join; after concluding conference play for the year, Valparaiso accepted the invitation on May 25, with the move being effective on July 1. Following the 2019 NCAA Division I men's soccer season, Valparaiso will cut the sport and men's tennis in order to allow greater attention to the school's other sports teams. The Newton Campus Soccer Field is the on-campus soccer and lacrosse stadium at Boston College in Newton, Massachusetts. The 1,800 person capacity stadium was built in 1999. The current tenants are the Boston College Eagles men's & women's soccer teams and Boston College Eagles women's lacrosse. Renovations Prior to the 2003 season, lights were added to the field. The UConn Huskies men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the University of Connecticut. The team is a member of the Big East Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). History Connecticut soccer existed prior to 1969, but was not considered a major sport and did not even have a real stadium. However, in 1969, Joe Morrone was hired as head coach, and made significant changes that would make the Huskies a premiere program. He started by building Connecticut Soccer Stadium, which now bears his name as Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Eventually, in Morrone's words, the team became "the Notre Dame of college soccer". Morrone would ultimately coach the team until he retired in 1994.
