2017 Manitoba Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship of Manitoba, was held from January 25 to 29 at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg. The winning Michelle Englot team represented Manitoba at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario, finishing second. The event was most notable for the defeat of the defending Olympic champion Jennifer Jones rink in the semifinal. Jones lost to Darcy Robertson who proceeded to lose to the Michelle Englot rink in the final. Englot, who is a resident of Regina, Saskatchewan had won seven provincial titles in her home province, but joined her new Winnipeg-based team in the 2016 off season, replacing their previous skip Kristy McDonald who had lost in the final of the 2016 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Kristy McDonald (born May 20, 1979 as Kristy Jenion) is a Canadian from Winnipeg, Manitoba. McDonald retired from 2016–2021, but returned to the playing for the 2021–22 season. Career Juniors McDonald had a strong junior career, skipping teams to win both the 1996 and 1999 Manitoba Junior Curling Championships. She would represent Manitoba in both of those years at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. At the 1996 Canadian Juniors, her team which included Ainsley Holowec, Shea Westcott and Raunora Westcott finished with a 5–7 record at the Canadian Juniors. At the 1999 Canadian Juniors, her team was made up of Reagan Wilkie, Charmaine Forese and Kyla Denisuik. Kerri Einarson (; born October 3, 1987 as Kerri Flett) is a Canadian Métis curler from Camp Morton, Manitoba, in the Rural Municipality of Gimli. 2015 Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts was held from February 14 to 22 at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The winners represented Canada at the 2015 World Women's Curling Championship held from March 14 to 22 at the Tsukisamu Gymnasium in Sapporo, Japan. Changes to competition format For the first time, the event was to be expanded to include entries from Nunavut, which has never participated in the Scotties, and Northern Ontario, which will now have a berth separate from (Southern) Ontario, as well as separate entries from the Yukon and Northwest Territories, which have historically competed as a single entry. The Nunavut Curling Association decided they were not ready to send teams to either the Scotties or the Brier, so will be sitting out this year's events.
