2017 IAAF World Relays – Women's 4 × 100 Metres Relay
The women's 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2017 IAAF World Relays was held at the Thomas Robinson Stadium on 23 April. In the final, USA's Tianna Bartoletta started strongly in lane 3, gaining vs the stagger against Jamaica's Simone Facey who was also gaining on Germany's Alexandra Burghardt. Approaching the first handoff, as Bartoletta passed Brazil's Tânia da Silva waiting in lane 2, Bartoletta lost her balance and crashed to the track. Da Silva, who was standing in her own lane, was also set off balance, neither USA or Brazil completed their handoff. The incident seem to echo from the situation between the same two teams at the previous year's Olympics. China's clean first handoff between Liang Xiaojing and Wei Yongli put them into the lead, while Germany's handoff to Lisa Mayer and Jamaica's handoff to Natasha Morrison were hesitant but effective. Thomas Robinson Stadium
Thomas Robinson Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. The largest stadium in the country, it is currently used mostly for soccer matches. The stadium currently has a capacity of 15,000 people, but has the ability to be expanded to hold 23,000 people. 4 × 100 Metres Relay
The 4 × 100 metres relay or sprint relay is an athletics track event run in lanes over one lap of the track with four runners completing 100 metres each. The first runners must begin in the same stagger as for the individual 400 m race. Each runner carries a relay baton. Before 2018, the baton had to be passed within a 20 m changeover box, preceded by a 10-metre acceleration zone. With a rule change effective November 1, 2017, that zone was modified to include the acceleration zone as part of the passing zone, making the entire zone 30 metres in length. The outgoing runner cannot touch the baton until it has entered the zone, and the incoming runner cannot touch it after it has left the zone. The zone is usually marked in yellow, frequently using lines, triangles or chevrons. While the rule book specifies the exact positioning of the marks, the colours and style are only "recommended". Carmelita Jeter ( , born November 24, 1979) is a retired American sprinter, who competed in the 60 metres, 100 m and 200 m. For over a decade, between 2009 and 2021, Jeter held the title as "Fastest woman alive" after running a 100 m personal best of 10.64 seconds at the 2009 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. In the 100 m, she was the 2011 world champion and the 2012 silver medalist. She is also a three-time Olympic medallist. Bianca Knight (born January 2, 1989) is an American former track and field athlete who competed in the 100 and 200 meters. At the 2012 Summer Olympics she won a team event gold medal in the 4x100 metres relay team. Allyson Michelle Felix (born November 18, 1985) is a retired American track and field athlete who competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. Tianna Bartoletta née Madison (born August 30, 1985) is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the long jump and short sprinting events. She is a two-time Olympian with three gold medals. At the 2012 Summer Olympics she placed fourth in the 100m race then won her first gold by leading off the world record-setting 4 × 100 m relay team. Naomi Sedney (born 17 December 1994) is a Dutch sprinter. She has been most successful as the anchor of the Dutch Relay team and is co-holder of the national record 4 x 100 m relay. Madiea Ghafoor (born 9 September 1992) is a former Netherlands, Dutch female athlete who participated in Sprint (running), sprinting and track and field. The women's 200 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics is scheduled to be held at the Beijing National Stadium on 26, 27 and 28 August. Summary Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica entered the competition as defending champion but after winning the 100 metres, decided against running here.
