2017 Hypo-Meeting
The 43rd edition of the annual Hypo-Meeting took place on May 27 and May 28, 2017 in Götzis, Austria. The track and field competition, featuring a men's decathlon and a women's heptathlon event was part of the 2017 IAAF Combined Events Challenge. Damian Warner (8591 points) and Nafissatou Thiam (7013 points) were the winners of the events overall. Thiam's score was the third best time in history and she became only the fourth woman to ever score over 7000 points. Götzis
Götzis is a town in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg. The Alpine Rhine valley municipality belongs to the district of Feldkirch. Population Events The town is well known for its annual hypo-combined events meeting, the so-called Hypo-Meeting, where some of the world's leading decathletes and heptathletes gather in the Mösle stadium. Roman Šebrle
Roman Šebrle (; born 26 November 1974) is a retired decathlete from the Czech Republic. He is considered to be one of the best decathlon athletes of all time. Originally a high jumper, he later switched to the combined events and is a former world record holder in the decathlon. In 2001 in Götzis he became the first decathlete ever to achieve over 9,000 points, setting the record at 9,026 points, succeeding his compatriot, Tomáš Dvořák, who had scored 8,994 points two years earlier. After placing second in the decathlon during the 2000 Summer Olympics, Šebrle won the gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Tradition dictates the winner of the decathlon holds the title of "World's Greatest Athlete". A panel of experts convened by the ''Wall Street Journal'' in 2008 also ranked Šebrle as the world's greatest athlete. Janek Õiglane
Janek Õiglane (born 25 April 1994 in Rakvere) is an Estonian athlete competing in the decathlon. He has represented Estonia five times at the World Athletics Championships, finishing 19th at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, achieving 4th place at the 2017 World Championships in London and earning 6th at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. DNF at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene and after that bounced back to get 6th place at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Ashley Bryant (born 17 May 1991) is a British athlete, specialising in the decathlon. He is a member of Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletic Club and is coached by Aston Moore. Bryant has represented Great Britain at the IAAF World Athletics Championships and England at the Commonwealth Games, a silver medallist in the latter. Leonel Suárez Fajardo (born September 1, 1987) is a decathlete from Cuba. He was bronze medalist in the event at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2008 Summer Olympics and silver medalist at the 2009 World Championships. Mathias Brugger
Mathias Brugger (born 6 August 1992) is a German track and field athlete who competes in the decathlon. He was a bronze medallist in the indoor heptathlon at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. His decathlon personal best is 8009 points, set in 2015. A member of SSV Ulm 1846 athletics club and trained by Christopher Hallmann, Brugger failed to finish his first international decathlon at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
