2017 Grand Slam Of Darts
The 2017 Grand Slam of Darts, was the eleventh staging of the tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The event took place from 11–19 November 2017 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, England. The tournament's defending champion was Michael van Gerwen, who won the tournament in 2016 by defeating James Wade 16–8 in the final. He retained his title for a 3rd consecutive year by beating Peter Wright 16–12 in this year's final. Prize money The prize fund for the Grand Slam was increased from £400,000 in 2016 to £450,000 in 2017, with the winner getting £110,000, as opposed to £100,000. Wolverhampton Civic Hall
The Halls Wolverhampton, formally known as Wolverhampton Civic Halls is a music venue in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. It has been one of the most notable live music venues in the county for several decades. It is part of a complex also including Wulfrun Hall and the Slade Rooms (previously known as The Little Civic). The complex is owned by City of Wolverhampton Council, operated by AEG Presents and is a Grade II listed building. Construction and development The hall, which was designed by Lyons and Israel in the Classical style was completed in May 1938. Gary Anderson (born 22 December 1970) is a Scottish professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). PDC World Youth Championship
The PDC World Youth Championship is a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), for darts players aged between 16 and 23. The tournament was introduced in 2010 as the PDC Under-21 World Championship and is sponsored by darts manufacturer Unicorn. The whole tournament is not broadcast live on TV, but the final was played before the final of the Premier League Darts from 2012 until 2014 and is now played before the final game of the Players Championships Finals tournament since 2015. The 2 finalists will earn a spot in the Grand Slam of Darts, and the winner receives a spot in the next PDC World Championship. The 2017 Unibet World Grand Prix was the 20th staging of the World Grand Prix (darts), World Grand Prix. It was held from 1–7 October 2017 at the Citywest, Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Michael van Gerwen was the defending champion after defeating Gary Anderson (darts player), Gary Anderson 5–2 in the 2016 World Grand Prix (darts), 2016 final, but lost to John Henderson (darts player), John Henderson 2–1 in the first round. This was the first time since 2011 Players Championship Finals (2), December 2011 that van Gerwen lost in the first round of a major ranking tournament. World Grand Prix (darts)
The BoyleSports World Grand Prix is a PDC darts tournament traditionally held in Dublin, Ireland every October, but has taken place in Leicester, England in since 2021. Its original venue was the Casino Rooms in Rochester, Kent in 1998 and 1999, and then for one year only in 2000 at the Crosbie Cedars Hotel in Rosslare, County Wexford. In 2001, the tournament moved further north to the Citywest in Dublin. In 2009, the tournament moved from the Reception Hall at the main Citywest Hotel, to the newly completed bigger venue on site, the Citywest Hotel Convention Centre. In 2012, the tournament moved back to the Reception Hall for that year, before returning to the Convention Centre in 2013. The 2017 BetVictor World Matchplay was the 24th annual staging of the World Matchplay, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament took place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from 22 to 30 July 2017. Michael van Gerwen was the two-times defending champion but lost to Phil Taylor 16–6 in the quarter-finals, with Taylor then going on to beat Peter Wright 18–8 in the final to claim his 16th World Matchplay Championship. The 2017 Betway Premier League Darts was a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation – the thirteenth edition of the tournament. The event began on Thursday 2 February at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle and ended with the Play-offs at The O2 Arena in London on Thursday 18 May. This is the fourth year that the tournament is sponsored by Betway. Premier League Darts is a darts tournament which launched on 20 January 2005 on Sky Sports. Now played weekly from February to May, the event originally started as a fortnightly fixture in small venues around the United Kingdom. The tournament originally featured seven players, and now sees eight players from the PDC circuit competing in a knockout style format, with nights also hosted in Europe at different venues. The top four players in the PDC Order of Merit are joined by four wildcard selections to make up the eight-man field. The Grand Slam of Darts is a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation and is known as the Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts for sponsorship purposes. The PDC also invited the best performing players from its rival, the British Darts Organisation. There have been two previous head-to-head matches between the champions of the two organisations and a few overseas tournaments have also featured BDO v PDC clashes, but this tournament is the first of its kind to be held in the United Kingdom. This arrangement lasted until the BDO's collapse into liquidation in 2020 and it is unclear whether any other organisation will be invited in future. Mark Webster (born 12 August 1983) is a Welsh former professional darts player. Nicknamed Webby and The Spider, he played in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Webster began his career on the British Darts Organisation (BDO) circuit, winning the BDO World Championship in 2008. Dave Chisnall (born 12 September 1980) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He began his career in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and was the runner-up in their World Championship in 2010.
