This was the second time this event was held in the city after the 1969 edition then known as the European Indoor Games, and the first time in more than 30 years that the competition was held in Eastern Europe. The three-day competition featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events and took place over two morning and three afternoon sessions. The decision of Belgrade as the host-city was announced on 4 May 2014 in Frankfurt am Main, beating bids from Istanbul and Polish city Toruń. Jazmin Sawyers
Jazmin Sawyers (born 21 May 1994) is a British track and field athlete who competes in the long jump, and sports presenter. She has also competed as a bobsledder and a heptathlete. Representing England, she was the silver medallist in the long jump at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She won a silver medal at the 2016 European Athletics Championships and a bronze medal in the 2022 event. At both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics, she finished eighth in the long jump. Her outdoor personal best is 6.90m achieved in June 2021. Angela Moroșanu
Angela Moroșanu (born 26 July 1986 in Iași) is a Romanian athlete. Moroșanu was discovered by Albu Ştefan who became her first trainer whilst she was at school in Belcești, a village 40 km from Iaşi. She started out competing for sports clubs in Iaşi and Bacău. Currently, she represents CS Dinamo București. At the 2004 Summer Olympics Moroșanu was part of the Romanian 4 × 400 m relay team. She finished 8th in the 200 m final at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, where she also took part in the 400 m hurdles. In 2007 Moroșanu became the European Under 23 Champion in the 400 m hurdles with a Championship Record time. At the 2008 Summer Olympics Moroșanu made it into the semifinals of the 400 m hurdles, finishing in 16th place overall. Maryse Luzolo (born 15 March 1995) is a German Olympic long jumper. She was born and raised in Frankfurt to parents from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She attended the Carl von Weinberg School in Frankfurt. Luzolo won the bronze medal at the 2014 World Junior Athletics Championships, and was the 2017 German U23 champion before suffering heavy knee injuries from a hyperextension which severely hampered her career. She has been part of the German Armed Forces since 2016. In 2018, she started studying sports and geography at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
