2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Overall
The men's overall in the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 36 events in 5 disciplines: downhill (DH) (8 races), Super-G (SG) (6 races), giant slalom (GS) (9 races), slalom (SL) (11 races), and Alpine combined (AC) (2 races). Marcel Hirscher of Austria, 28 years old, won the overall title for the sixth consecutive time, tying one all-time record and breaking another. Hirscher tied the record for the most overall World Cup titles (six) held since 1979 by Annemarie Moser-Pröll, and broke the record for the most consecutive titles (five) also held by Moser-Pröll. The season was interrupted by the 2017 World Ski Championships, which were held from 6–20 February in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The finals were held in Aspen, Colorado (USA) from 15-19 March 2017; however, Hirscher clinched the overall title two weeks earlier, on 4 March, by winning a giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. Mathieu Faivre (born 18 January 1992) is a French World Cup alpine ski racer, and specializes in giant slalom. He has competed for France in two Winter Olympics and six World Championships. In 2021, he won two gold medals for world titles in giant slalom and parallel giant slalom. Career Born in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, Faivre made his World Cup debut at age 18 in March 2010 and gained his first World Cup podium in February 2016 in a giant slalom at Naeba, Japan. Carlo Janka (born 15 October 1986) is a Swiss former alpine ski racer. Born in Obersaxen, in the canton of Graubünden, he had the winter sports facilities right in front of his home. Janka has won gold medals at both the Winter Olympics and the World Championships, as well as one World Cup overall title, one discipline title and also, one unofficial alpine combined title. Johannes "Hannes" Reichelt (born 5 July 1980) is a retired Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. He competed mainly in downhill and super-G, as well as in giant slalom. Biography Born in Altenmarkt im Pongau in Salzburg, Reichelt made his World Cup debut in December 2001. He made his first podium in December 2002 and won his first World Cup race, a super-G, in December 2005. Manfred Mölgg (born 3 June 1982) is an Italian former World Cup alpine ski racer. He specialized in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Mölgg's younger sister Manuela is also a former alpine racer with ten World Cup podiums. Biography Born in Bruneck, South Tyrol, Mölgg made his World Cup debut in January 2003 at Bormio. Dominik Paris (born 14 April 1989) is an Italian alpine ski racer, who specializes in speed events of downhill and super-G. He was the world champion in super-G, as the gold medalist in 2019 at Åre, Sweden. Peter Fill (born 12 November 1982) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from northern Italy. Born in Brixen, South Tyrol, he formerly competed in all disciplines, and later focused on the speed events of downhill, super-G, and combined. Fill won the World Cup season title in downhill in 2016 and in 2017, and the combined title in 2018. Career Fill is an all-round skier. In the 2007 season, Fill was among the overall leaders for the overall World Cup title, the first Italian since Alberto Tomba to rank in the overall top ten. Felix Neureuther (; born 26 March 1984) is a German retired World Cup alpine ski racer and former World champion. Early life Born in Munich-Pasing, Neureuther is the son of former World and Olympic champion Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther, a slalom specialist and winner of six World Cup races. He is the nephew of Evi Mittermaier, who was also a successful alpine ski racer and former Olympian in 1976 and 1980. As of 2020, the combined Neureuther–Mittermaier family has 31 World Cup wins, with 115 podium finishes.
