2017 Akron Zips Men's Soccer Team
The 2017 Akron Zips men's soccer team represented The University of Akron during the 2017 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. The Zips, played in the Mid-American Conference. The Zips ended their 12-year reign as the MAC regular season champions, as an upstart campaign by Western Michigan saw the Broncos beat the Zips on tiebreaker. In the Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, Akron defeated Western Michigan, 3-1, in the championship match to win their sixth straight MAC Tournament championship. The championship ensured the program's 14th-straight berth into the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament, Akron advanced to their fifth-ever College Cup after posting victories over Seattle U, Wisconsin, and Louisville. The Zips were guided by fifth-year head coach, Jared Embick. Jared Embick
Jared Embick is an American college soccer coach, currently serving as head coach of the Akron Zips men's soccer team. Career He played college soccer at Indiana Wesleyan University. He was the head coach for Missouri Baptist University Missouri Baptist University (MBU) is a private Southern Baptist university in Creve Coeur, Missouri. It is one of three universities of the Missouri Baptist Convention. The main campus is located on a 68-acre site near Creve Coeur and Town and ... from 2003 and 2006. He became as assistant at Akron in 2007. Embick was named the national assistant coach of the year for the 2010 season. He became Akron's head coach following the 2012 season. Akron lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013. In July 2015, Embick's contract was extended through the 2018 season. Embick led Akron to the 2015, 2017, and 2018 College Cups.
