2017 Aberdeen City Council Election
The 2017 Aberdeen City Council election took place on 4 May 2017 to elect members of Aberdeen City Council. The election used the 13 wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using the single transferable vote system a form of proportional representation, with a total of 45 Councillors elected, an increase in two members from 2012. The Scottish National Party won 19 seats, the Scottish Conservatives won 11, Scottish Labour won nine, the Scottish Liberal Democrats won four and there were two independent members. On 11 May, the Lib Dems, ruled out entering into a formal coalition and instead would "consider every issue before the council on its merits on a case-by-case basis." Audrey Elizabeth Nicoll (née Gibb; born 1961) is a Scottish politician who has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine since 2021. Christian Allard (born 31 March 1964) is a French-born British politician. Allard was elected as a Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Scotland constituency in the 2019 European Parliament election, serving until the 31 January 2020 when the Brexit process was completed. Tom Mason (Scottish Politician)
Thomas Gee Mason (born 31 December 1942) is a retired Scottish Conservative Party politician, who was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the North East Scotland region. Mason was sworn in on 20 June 2017, following the resignation of Ross Thomson. He stood down at the 2021 election.
