2016–17 Women's FIH Hockey World League Final
The 2016–17 Women's FIH Hockey World League Final took place between 17 and 26 November 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand. A total of eight teams competed for the title. The Netherlands won the tournament for a record second time after defeating host nation New Zealand 3–0 in the final match. South Korea won the third place match by defeating England 1–0. Qualification The host nation qualified automatically in addition to 7 teams qualified from the Semifinals. Erin Goad (born 25 May 1993) is a field hockey player from New Zealand, who plays as a defender. Personal life Goad was born and raised in Henderson, New Zealand. Career National teams Under–21 Goad debuted for the New Zealand U–21 team in 2013 at the FIH Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach. Black Sticks In 2014, Goad made her debut for the Black Sticks during a test series against the United States in New Zealand. Jill Witmer (born October 1, 1991) is an American field hockey player. Witmer was named to the U.S. National Team in 2013 and was named to the U.S. Olympic Team in 2016. Early life Witmer was born on October 1, 1991, to parents Lew and Judy Witmer. Witmer grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with four siblings. She began playing field hockey at the urging of her parents. The Witmer family had built a gym for field hockey on their farm, nicknamed "the Coop." Witmer joined her first field hockey team in eighth grade. She then played for the local high school field hockey team Penn Manor even though she was home schooled.
