2016–17 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. Season
The 2016–17 season was the 139th year in the history of English football club Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club competed in the second tier of the English football system, the Football League Championship for a third consecutive year. This was the first season for the club under the ownership of the Chinese investment group Fosun which acquired the club on 21 July 2016 for a reported £45 million. Although head coach Kenny Jackett's position was initially confirmed by the new owners, he was replaced by Walter Zenga before the season proper began. However, Zenga lasted just 14 league games before being dismissed with the team in 18th place. Paul Lambert was appointed on 5 November, but despite leading the team to two victories away at Premier League opposition in the FA Cup, the club's league form showed only a marginal improvement in the form of a 15th-place finish, one place lower than the previous campaign (although with an identical points tally of 58). Wolverhampton () is a city, metropolitan borough and administrative centre in the West Midlands, England. The population size has increased by 5.7%, from around 249,500 in 2011 to 263,700 in 2021. People from the city are called "Wulfrunians". Historically part of Staffordshire, the city grew initially as a market town specialising in the wool trade. In the Industrial Revolution, it became a major centre for coal mining, steel production, lock making, and the manufacture of cars and motorcycles. Niall Ennis
Niall Nathan Michael Ennis (born 20 May 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Stoke City. Ennis began his career with his local team Wolverhampton Wanderers, progressing through their academy. After loan spells with Shrewsbury Town, Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion he joined League One side Plymouth Argyle in January 2021. Ennis scored 12 goals in 2022–23 helping them gain promotion to the Championship. He signed for Blackburn Rovers in May 2023 on a four-year contract, however in February 2024 he joined Stoke City. Cian Coleman
Cian Coleman (born 1 January 1997) is an Irish professional footballer playing for League of Ireland Premier Division club, Cork City. He has previously played for St Patrick's Athletic, Limerick and Cobh Ramblers for a season each, having started his career at his local club, Cork City. Club career Cork City Coleman joined Cork City in 2013 aged 16, just after having spent time on trial with Aston Villa. Crewe () is a railway town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. The Crewe built-up area had a total population of 75,556 in 2011, which also covers parts of the adjacent civil parishes of Willaston, Shavington cum Gresty and Wistaston. Gresty Road or the Alexandra Stadium, currently known as the Mornflake Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium in Crewe, Cheshire, England. Joseph Mason (born 13 May 1991) is a professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Forward (association football), forward for Canadian club Cavalry FC. Born in England, he was a youth international for the Republic of Ireland. Dominic Iorfa (born 24 June 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Sheffield Wednesday. He is the son of Nigerian international footballer Dominic Iorfa, and represented England at under-21 level.
