2016–17 S.L. Benfica Season
The 2016–17 season was Sport Lisboa e Benfica's 113th season in existence and the club's 83rd consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. It started on 7 August 2016 with the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira match and concluded on 28 May 2017 with the Taça de Portugal final. Benfica played in the Primeira Liga as three-time defending champions, and were successful in defending their title, becoming a four-time champions (''tetra'') for the first time in their history; setting a new record of 36 league titles. In the Taça da Liga, Benfica, who also participated as the three-time defending holders, lost to eventual winners Moreirense in the semi-finals. It was Benfica's first defeat in the competition since 31 October 2007, which ended a 42-game unbeaten run. Luís Filipe Vieira
Luís Filipe Ferreira Vieira (born 22 June 1949) is a Portuguese real estate businessman who was the 33rd president of sports club S.L. Benfica, from October 2003 to July 2021. He was also president of the club's SAD board of directors until July 2021, when he was arrested in operation "Red Card" ( pt, Cartão Vermelho). Early life and career Vieira was born on 22 June 1949 in Bairro das Furnas, São Domingos de Benfica, to Benvinda Ferreira (mother), a factory worker, and Fernando Mendes Vieira, a construction worker. Filipe Augusto Carvalho Souza (born 12 August 1993), known as Filipe Augusto, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. Ljubomir Fejsa ( sr-Cyrl, Љубомир Фејса, ; born 14 August 1988) is a Serbian professional footballer who plays for Partizan as a defensive midfielder. Ânderson Luís da Silva (born 13 February 1981), known as Luisão, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a centre back. Lisandro Ezequiel López (born 1 September 1989) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays for Liga MX club Tijuana as a defender. Ederson Santana de Moraes (born 17 August 1993), known as Ederson, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Manchester City and the Brazil national team. Moreirense Futebol Clube is a Portuguese professional football club based in Moreira de Cónegos, Guimarães Municipality, in Minho.
