The 2016–17 Ranji Trophy is the 83rd season of the Ranji Trophy, the first-class cricket tournament in India. It is being contested by 28 teams divided into three groups. Groups A and B comprise nine teams and Group C comprises ten teams. Hyderabad and Haryana qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI is the richest governing body of cricket in the world and is part of the ''Big Three'' of international cricket, along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. The Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium , also known as New VCA Stadium, is a cricket ground in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is the largest cricket stadium in India in terms of field area.
