2016–17 Jakarta Protests
The 2016–17 Jakarta protests, branded Aksi Bela Islam (''Action for Defending Islam'') by the protesters, are series of Islamist uprisings and protests against Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who was accused of committing blasphemy of the Quran. The protests were carried out by the Islamic Defenders Front alongside its Islamist collaborators which make up a single coalition called the 212 Movement, named after their third protest, held in 2 December 2016. Aksi Super Damai 212 (Aksi Bela Islam IIII) 2016
Aksi (also known as Väike-Prangli (Little Prangli) or Äksi) ( sv, Lilla Wrangelsö) is an Estonian island in the Gulf of Finland with an area of 59 hectares. Coordinates are It forms an archipelago with nearby islands of Prangli and Keri. Aksi belongs to Idaotsa village in Viimsi Parish, Harju County. Aksi is a part of the Prangli Landscape Conservation Area. The island's northern end is stony, its southern end is sandy and covered with junipers and birches. Aksi was inhabited from 1790 to 1953, when the last inhabitants were forced to leave by the Soviet border guard. Many had fled already in 1944, mainly to Sweden. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (, Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: ''Chûng Van-ho̍k''; born 29 June 1966) is an Indonesian businessman, politician, and former governor of Jakarta. He is also known by his Hakka Chinese nickname Ahok (). He was the second minority governor of Jakarta with Chinese ancestry and also of the Evangelical faith, following Henk Ngantung, who was governor of Catholic faith from 1964–65. 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election
Two rounds of a gubernatorial election were held in Jakarta as part of the 2017 Indonesian local elections, 2017 simultaneous elections on 15 February and 19 April 2017 to elect the governor of Jakarta to a five-year term. Incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, popularly referred to as "Ahok", and his deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat were running for re-election to a second term. Basuki, who inherited his current position from his running mate Joko Widodo when he won the 2014 Indonesian presidential election, would have become the first elected Chinese-Christian governor of Jakarta had he won. Under the constitution, if no candidate secured a majority of the votes, a runoff election would be held between the top two candidates.
