2016–17 Gibraltar Premier Division
The 2016–17 Gibraltar Premier Division (known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division for sponsorship reasons) was the 118th season of the national amateur and semi-professional football league in Gibraltar since its establishment - the highest level of football in Gibraltar. The league was contested by ten clubs, the top eight clubs from last season and two promoted clubs from 2015–16 Gibraltar Second Division. Lincoln Red Imps were the reigning champions, sealing a record 22nd title last season. The season began on 21 September 2016 and ended on 22 May 2017. Europa won the title, ending Lincoln's 14 title run and winning their first title since 1952. Format As with the previous season, each of the ten Premier Division teams played each other three times for a total of 27 matches each. Gibraltar Premier Division
The Gibraltar Premier Division was a football league established by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) in 1905, and the top tier of football in Gibraltar. It originally contained eight member clubs, but it has grown over the years. In 1909 the league was split into two divisions between which clubs can be promoted and relegated at the end of each season. In the 2013–14 season, the Premier Division contained eight clubs with the Second Division containing 12 clubs. For sponsorship reasons it is known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division. From the 2014–15 season, as a result of the territory's membership of UEFA, the champions entered the first UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The winners of Gibraltar's cup competition, the Rock Cup, meanwhile, gained entry to the following season's UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. FC Britannia XI is a futsal club from Gibraltar, which currently plays in the Gibraltar Futsal First Division, the second tier of futsal in Gibraltar. Until 2016, the club also operated an association football team who played in the Gibraltar Premier Division until its relegation and resignation at the end of the 2015–16 season. The club, like all others in the territory, play at the Victoria Stadium on Winston Churchill Avenue. History The club was previously known as Britannia FC and was previously one of the more dominant sides in Gibraltar, winning several championships in the 1950s, until going into administration and regrouping under its current name in 2009. David Wilson (Scottish Football Manager)
David Wilson (born 22 February 1974) is a Scottish football manager who is currently U23 coach for St Joseph's in the Gibraltar Intermediate League. From April 2013 to March 2015, he served as an assistant manager of the national team under head coach Allen Bula and held the position when the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) was admitted to UEFA in May 2013. He has also managed Lions Gibraltar, Bruno's Magpies and Manchester 62.
