2016–17 George Mason Patriots Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 George Mason Patriots Men's basketball team represented George Mason University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was the 51st season for the program. They were coached by second-year coach Dave Paulsen as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They play their home games at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia. They finished the season 20–14, 9–9 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for seventh place. In the A-10 tournament, they defeated Fordham in the second round before losing to VCU in the quarterfinals. They received an invitation to the College Basketball Invitational where they lost in the first round to Loyola (MD). Previous season The Patriots finished the 2015–16 season with a record of 11–21, 5–13 in A–10 play to finish in a tie for 12th place. Dave Paulsen
Dave Paulsen (born September 14, 1964) is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach at Holy Cross. Previously, he was the head men's basketball coach at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Before arriving at George Mason, he was previously the head coach at Bucknell University for seven seasons. Prior to Bucknell, he spent eight years as the head coach at his alma mater, Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and also coached at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. Coaching career At Williams College, Paulsen won the NCAA Division III title in 2003, and finished as national runner up in 2004. Paulsen was twice named Division III Coach of the Year during his time at Williams. On May 20, 2008, Paulsen was hired as head coach at Bucknell. 2015–16 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 13. The first early-season tournaments to begin were the Puerto Rico Tip-Off and the Charleston Classic. The season ended with the 2016 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, whose Final Four took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Houston, Texas, on April 2, 2016, with the national championship game following on April 4. Practices officially began on October 2, 2015. Shevon Thompson
Shevon Thompson (born June 10, 1993) is a Jamaican professional basketball player for Spartak Subotica of the Serbian League (KLS), the ABA League and the Champions League. He played college basketball for Midland College, Harcum College, and George Mason. Early life Thompson grew up playing soccer in Jamaica. He never played basketball until his junior year of high school, when a woman noticed his height and asked if he knew how to play. Thompson replied no, so the woman offered to teach him later. Thompson became more comfortable the more he played and began attracting attention in the United States.
