2016–17 Chinese Basketball Association Season
The 2016–17 CBA season is the 22nd season of the Chinese Basketball Association. The regular season began on Saturday, October 29, 2016, with the defending champion Sichuan Blue Whales hosting the Beikong Fly Dragons. The regular season ends on Sunday, February 19, 2017, and the playoffs begin on Friday, February 24, 2017. Team Changes One team relocated ahead of the season. Name Changes *The Foshan Long-Lions moved to Guangzhou and changed their name to Guangzhou Long-Lions on September 23, 2016. Foreign Players Policy All teams except the Bayi Rockets can have two foreign players. The bottom 4 teams from the previous season (except Bayi) have the additional right to sign an extra Asian player. Bayi Rockets
The Bayi Rockets () was a professional basketball team based in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China, which played in the South Division of the Chinese Basketball Association. On 20 October 2020, Chinese Basketball Association announced that Bayi Rockets had withdrawn from Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). History The Bayi Rockets were founded in 1955 in Ningbo, Zhejiang. The team's founding members served in the People's Liberation Army, and the "Bayi" in its name represents the anniversary of the founding of the PLA, August 1. There are also several other army clubs using the Bayi name in other sports leagues, including Bayi Kylin in the WCBA, the men's soccer team Bayi Zhengbang, and the women's soccer club Bayi Xiangtan. Mohammad Samad Nikkhah Bahrami ( fa, محمدصمد نیکخواه بهرامی, born 11 May 1983) is an Iranian peoples, Iranian professional basketball player. Carlos Austin Boozer Jr. (born November 20, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player. Donald Wayne Sloan (born January 15, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for the Texas A&M Aggies. Sloan played parts of five seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers and Brooklyn Nets. Sebastian Telfair (born June 9, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the NBA and the Chinese Basketball Association. Dwight Buycks ( ; born March 6, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for Al-Shamal SC of the Qatari Basketball League. He played college basketball for the Indian Hills Warriors and Marquette Golden Eagles. High school career Buycks attended Bay View High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fujian Sturgeons
Fujian SBS Xunxing Sturgeons (Simplified Chinese: 福建SBS浔兴鲟) or Fujian Xunxing or Fujian SBS are a Chinese professional men's basketball team in the Chinese Basketball Association, based in Jinjiang, Quanzhou, Fujian. The "SBS" reflects corporate sponsorship from the Jinjiang-based Fujian SBS Zipper Science and Technology Corporation. Unlike all the other teams in the CBA, the team originally had no English–friendly animal–type nickname. They have since begun using the name Sturgeons. Esteban Damián Batista Hernández (born September 2, 1983) is a Uruguayan professional basketball player for Club Nacional de Football of the Liga Uruguaya de Basketball. He was the first ever Uruguayan to play in the NBA. Professional career Batista began his pro career in the Uruguayan League in 2001. Randolph Albert Morris (born January 2, 1986) is a retired former American professional basketball player. High school As a senior for Atlanta, Georgia's Landmark Christian High School, Morris nearly averaged a triple-double at 23.0 ppg, 16.0 rpg and 8.0 bpg, which earned him McDonald's All-American Team status.
